bobs_monkey@lemm.ee 6 months agoThe big difference is see is that Lemmy requires a fair bit of onboarding to learn about federation, different instances, etc that may make it difficult to gain mainstream appeal. Reddit/Instagram/Facebook/etc are a little easier in that they autopopulate your feed with defaults, whereas on Lemmy the defaults are whatever instance you sign up with.

I keep hearing this but my dumb ass signed up and created an account just like I would with any other website. The only thing I adjusted to was /c communities instead of /r subreddits.
