Not without mistakes or abuses of power, but even if we take the most dubious and exaggerated of accusations of communist atrocities at face value, they still pale at the casual everyday waste of life under capitalism.

I mean technically communism has never existed because it specifically refers to a stateless, classless, and moneyless society. Socialism is the intermediate step where workers control the means of production in order to build communism.
But most people leave pedantry in the classroom and understand that the two terms are basically interchangeable in everyday context.
And FYI, the strongest economy in the world right now is socialist.
