  In this case it’s the os asking your birthday, not having to prove your identity to use the computer

  Which while still shitty is the only acceptable amount if she verification.

    This isn’t acceptable in the least. The very fact it seems so innocuous right now is to get opinions like yours circulating to make everyone feel comfortable with it. People have got to stop thinking in the short-term when it comes to privacy.

    “Oh, it’s just one more data point, what can it hurt now? All you have to do is type a number in a box. You don’t even have to provide any documentation to prove you aren’t lying!”

    Their “age verification” method is useless for accomplishing any actual age verification. So why is it still being pushed? Because the groundwork is being laid now for the actual surveillance to be implemented later.

    Well, that would have been the entire history of computing right up until the point that the government starts fiddling with operating systems so ultimately we'll have to provide proof of identity to download or install software.

    I know you kids are too young to remember this, but back in the day there used to be a cartoon from The New Yorker, "on the internet nobody knows you're a dog". Very quickly it appears that many jurisdictions are trying to make sure that it is built into the frameworks of computing that everyone will know exactly that you're a dog.
