It’s not all the time but if someone has sob story after sob story after drama after drama I start to think they’re just telling me stories about their victims.
Comment on Two sides to every story
tomiant@piefed.social 1 day agoI try real hard to remind myself when people tell me their sob stories that somewhere out there is someone who would be flabbergasted at the bullshit being spewed in my face.

“If it smells like shit everywhere you go, check your shoe” sums it up pretty nice

That literally is my ex. Me and all her other exes were apparently violent and abusive, cheaters, bad with money and 100 other things. Like she literally tells her friends I was violent but also begs to get me back because her new boyfriend can’t hold down a job and she doesn’t want to go back to work either.
Everything is protection with her.

As someone who fell prey to someone that way, yep. I try not to be callous, but at a certain point it goes from “you’re part of the problem” and into “you’re incapable of coping with a boring normal situation and so you just cause problems to deal with it”

It’s extra fun when they are delusional enough to accidentally tell on themselves.
For example, if someone tells me unprompted that their nasty family members are falsely accusing them of something and cut off contact over it, I immediately believe whatever “false” accusations they claim to have against them.
I use this example because I literally had this conversation with a total stranger and he truly had no idea how bad he was making himself look.
