So what’s your point?
Biden was in fact president
Comment on Can we have a boring and uneventful week for a change?
LifeInMultipleChoice@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 day ago49 Republicans, 48 Democrats, 2 independents in the Senate, and a House majority Republican. That just means all bills/laws made from 2023-2025 were dictated by Republicans in that time. There are a lot of terrible Democrats, but people lie to themselves that we will get laws written by Democrats during any of that time. Most people on here saying “well Biden was President” are pro authoritarian, pro fascist regimes.
So what’s your point?
Biden was in fact president
Presidents were ruled above the law during his time. He could have made anything he wanted a law because he was above the restrictions of power on the president.
Presidents can’t make laws. And executive orders only apply to the executive branch. They are orders to his workers. It’s like the CEO of Coke saying “put cocaine back in product”. It didn’t make it legal for the cocaine to be in the product.
It was ruled everything the president does in official capacity is legal.
No, they ruled official acts have immunity. It doesn’t make the actions legal. So the President can say “arrest all people sweater vests as a matter of national security” and he cannot be punished for doing so. A court can rule the action unconstitutional and thus an illegal act. If anyone actually arrests people for wearing sweater vests at that point they can be held criminally liable. Though it likely would only happen once the president left office, or he would have the ability to still pardon them for performing the illegal act. But all those arrested would have their cases dismissed in court because the action they were arrested for, was not infact a valid charge.

If Democrats had absolute control, we’d still be on a slow boat to oblivion. That is no doubt an improvement over the express train we are on, but let’s not pretend the Democratic establishment has anything in mind for the future of the middle class but utter destruction.
Oh, and Congress didn’t exactly need to put a gun to Biden’s head on Palestine.

so what is it you want? Murder? Terrorism? Spell it out so we know what you are saying. Because many Democrats are stupid, doesn’t excuse you from your words

I would like them to break out of the stupid two party system
LifeInMultipleChoice@lemmy.dbzer0.com 21 hours ago
Id like them to update the impeachment/removal process to something like 25% impeaches, and 25% removes. And bring it back to the VP being the runner up. 3rd place being put on queue. Emergency vote if to pick the next 3rd when needed. It would essentially put the executive branch back to being what I think they are supposed to be, people executing the laws made my our representatives in Congress. Presidential elections wouldnt matter much at all, and all the money trying to get candidates there would simmer down along with some of the corruption hopefully. People should be focused on who their representatives are in the house and senate. Then who represents them locally. No one should have to care who is president.

So you vote Democrat and primary with progressives that run on election reform.
Serinus@lemmy.world 1 day ago
Is that more or less important to you than defeating Nazis?
Tinidril@midwest.social 1 day ago
What? How the hell did you get murder and terrorism out of that?
What I want is is social libertarianism. What I’d settle for is an FDR progressive. My bare acceptable minimum is liberal democracy. What the Democrats are is ineffective illiberal elitist technocrats.
Serinus@lemmy.world 1 day ago
Disagree. Could be true with their half-ass efforts towards climate change but I think with enough Hillary Democrat control we’d basically go back to the 1990s, which right now looks like the peak of human civilization.
Personally I think we can do better. The gains in efficiency we’ve made since the 90s, and there have been a lot, should mostly be going to the people. I think we should be thinking big with projects like real mas transit and freight, reducing our reliance on semis, and more local, green energy independence. I think we can achieve a $25 (2025) , adjusted for inflation min wage WITH a 32 hour work week for everyone.
I’d like actual progress. I’ll settle for the 1990s and rule of law. Neither are close to the actual fascism of Republicans.
I’ll vote for the first in the primary, and whichever of the first two win in the general. Kind of how our democracy works currently. Yeah, ranked choice would be better but for right now I’ll settle for one more reasonably fair fptp election.

What? Bill Clinton is more responsible than anyone but maybe Reagan for the gutting of the middle class. The Clinton’s set is on this path. Hillary’s only real track record is on foreign policy, and her positions there reflect the absolute worst aspects of American arrogance and interventionism.
The Clinton’s and the rest of the Democratic establishment are responsible for destroying the underlying social fabric that would have made any of what you want possible. They are also diametrically opposed to a “fair” primary. Democrats have near 100% control over their own primary process, and the whole thing is rigged to maximize their ability to manipulate voters through their domination of media.

That is just as true for Republicans
The good news is that people are (hopefully) getting sick and tired of it all

The last time Democrats had any control at all they passed the ACA.
Tinidril@midwest.social 14 hours ago
Is that supposed to be a positive? What’s going on now with the ACA was written into it’s DNA from day one. I don’t think there is a single government program that has transferred more wealth to Wall Street than the ACA. Not even defense contracts can compete.
