Comment on The Men Who Stare at Goats
BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 1 day agoI have a history degree, so it’s my natural inclination to tell the story by highlighting all the important steps, so people can see how the situation developed. I might not remember exact dates or names, but the general story will be accurate.
Early on, I learned that history is just the story of interesting people and events. I never understood why it wasn’t everybody’s favorite subject.

Fair enough, I guess if you have been taught how to do that on a practical level it comes more naturally. I can do that with story telling pretty easy but when I’m in an argument my recall ability may as well not exist so I just default to logic teardown, though that probably has more to do with me arguing with creationist and conspiracy theorist since attacking their data is pointless oftentimes while attacking the structure of their logic at least pisses them off.

Valid. Some people do not respond to logical discourse because they don’t possess Critical Thinking Skills, so they develop a chaotic ad hoc form of thinking that is difficult to interact with without trying to get them to control their logic first.
