Comment on Misogyny and Violent Extremism: Can Big Tech Fix the Glitch?

If I had to give a single reason, it’d probably be because they’re the ones, by and large, who are not only providing a platform for the dissemination of these abhorrent views by this trash, but they’re directly profiting from it to boot… I feel like that’s honestly pretty obvious, though I’m gonna give you the benefit of the doubt here and choose to assume you’re genuinely asking and not just being facetious

It’s both honestly. Overall I think the issue is rooted more in culture. Not tech. Secondly I am starting to question the role of media in yellow journalism to sell ads online by catering to crowds

I think that the only point you can hold against the big tech is that they are profiting from it. They provide one platform to disseminate but it is not that suche ideas need a social network to spread. Hitler had not social networks and like him every war/discrimination act against one group or another up until, say, 20 years ago did not need a social network.

We can agree that maybe a social network is easier and the dissemination is faster, but in itself a social network is not strictly needed.

You want to fix the problem ? Fix the people on both sides, it is the only option

    TV for one, or you are saying that channels like Fo New are harmless ?
    But more generally every media is suitable to spread misinformation, some better than other, and I agree that currently social media are better at the “work”, but it is not that before social media we have not misinformations, misogyny and violent extremism.
    
    Social media is only a big resonance chamber for the $MINORITY_OF_THE_DAY that cry louder (and I am sure that you would understand why if you were not blinded by hate for tech companies) and they are getting more credit than they deserve.
    
    To make you understand a little better (I hope) look at all the “go woke, go broke” rethoric. It is obvious
