I think the internet at large should be viewed this way. It’s almost impossible to completely get rid of anything that isn’t under your direct and immediate control - i.e. your own personal email server. I don’t assume that Lemmy/Fediverse is any different.
That said, with the effort to be ”not Reddit” or just another social media platform ready to be potentially abused, focus should be placed on privacy and user ownership and their ability to control their data on the platform.
