By that logic, pea should be called peapeapeapeapeapeapea
Comment on Oh, now i get it! "Peanuts" is because they are nuts inside a pod-like thing, just like peas!

There’s a type of pea which is called “Kiechererbse” in German. “Erbse” is the German word for pea. And “Kiecher” is the old German word for pea.

Ok, so if pea in Old English is pise, should it be peapisepisepisepisepisepise or peapeapeapeapeapeapise? peapeapeapisepisepisepise?

When literally every other language said “ananas”, English panicked and mentally combined the concept of a pinecone and a freakin’ apple
NONE_dc@lemmy.world 3 weeks ago
Meanwhile in Spanish we got rid of the apple part and simply call them “Piñas”.
