I lost my job in April 2024 and I finally got my new job at the end of January. Keep your chin up. Look for people you know who could give referrals. That’s how I ended up getting hired. Good luck!
Comment on Microsoft laying off about 6,000 people, or 3% of its workforce

Cool. I mean I haven’t been able to get past a single 10-minute “I just want to go over the job with you and collect some basic information” phone interview in 6-months.
But ya know. Another 6,000 people on the market is cool too.

I do try.
Every single former co-worker has ghosted me at this point and even my friends have basically taken a “Hahaha, for sure mate, for sure, hey have you guys ever changed the conversation?” attitude when I bring up connecting me with people.
People suck lol.

I’ve been saying for years the corporate world was getting ready to pull the rug from tech workers. Why do people think educational standards (and as it goes, engineering standards) for software development have been pushed down so much over the last decade? “What if you get hit by a bus??” A well strangely well backed to “stop gatekeeping” software development now revealed as a trojan horse to make developers fungible.
Well it might take 2TB of RAM for this buggy prod system to store and retrieve a JSON blob but at least anyone can work on it.

How many recruiter screens are you getting? If you are getting a decent amount, your resume is likely good.
If you are failing recruiter screens, you are saying or doing something that is turning them off.
I would see if you can get feedback or have a friend “screen” you.
There are some services or organizations for mock interviews. Utilize them!

I keep hoping this will spark some sort of anti-capitalist zeitgeist. But labor might be too scattered and individualistic.
Like, why are we all scrambling for a handful of jobs when the rich have so many resources?

Because have fun doing anything about it while scrambling to survive

Oh fuck off with this ‘survive’ nonsense.
Literally every bitch I know in America complaining about “not having enough money” spends it like a goddamn idiot.
Doordash every day. Subscriptions out the wah-zoo for things they can be getting for free.
You’d better believe most of them are going to be buying a switch 2 instead of emulating.
No, they get no sympathy from me. They all deserve what’s coming to them and I hope it hits hard.

It kinda sounds like you’re shaming people simply for spending their money on entertainment, food or better living conditions. That kind of take can come off like saying, “you’re poor, so you don’t deserve to enjoy anything.”
I get that there are alternatives like pirating, but that doesn’t really solve the bigger issue: we shouldn’t have to resort to that in the first place.

Why are you surrounded by so many shitty people?

It’s easier to fight with each other than it is to fight our puppet-masters.
