The part where Picard admits he started to see a fifth light is heart breaking.
I’m gonna watch that episode now. Fuck it.

WeirdGoesPro@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 year agoThere is a famous episode of Star Trek Next Gen where Picard is captured and tortured. Part of the torture is that they shine four bright lights in his eyes and keep trying to break him down until he will say that there are five lights instead of four. The entire episode boils down to a lot of moments of Picard dramatically shouting “there are four lights” every time he is asked.

If I remember correctly at the end he actually sees five lights but still says four. Fantastic way to show that Picard is human and fallible, but his spirit is stronger.

I hadn’t read 1984 when I last watched that episode… but now that I have wow that is such a homage to 1984

I’d say it’s more of a complete disagreement than a homage.

Guess I need to watch it again!

The same story happened to me, cops were mentally torturing me by asking me how many fingers they were showing, I am positive this cop had six fingers. The spirits I had were quite strong too!

How many moonlights did you see?

Well I don’t know if it is what your talking about that but there was this girl one time with a candle… I guess it could be called a moonlight.
