Now if I can just get it past our HOA Board… There’s very strict rules in the CC&Rs about what’s allowed on the balconies. And I don’t think there’s anything in the law to address that.

Hidebound thinking isn’t exclusive to Boomers. The fussiest member right now is the youngest man. I’m technically a boomer myself and I have gotten farther Left every year since adulthood, (plus of course the general trend has gone farther and farther to the Wrong.)
I was able to get some ordinary camping-type solar panels approved by the Board several years ago, but only to have in the closet, available if I need to recharge the emergency Jackery batteries I keep plugged into the wall in case of a power outage. And that’s only because my spouse has several life-essential medical devices.
(No we never go camping. Life on the edge is a daily thing. And no I don’t have time to run for the Board myself)
