I suspect that whoever they sell it to is going to carry on doing exactly the same thing. I’m sure part of the appeal in the sale is all of those “captive audience” shops in train stations etc.
Comment on WH Smith in secret talks to sell historic high street arm

WHSmith was the first business to adopt enshittification as a business model.
Back when a 500 ml drink was typically £1 or £1.20 in most stores they’d be marked up to £2 in WHSmith and you’d be conned into thinking±buying 2 for £3 thinking it was a good deal.
Then the sales desk would be littered with giant bars of shitty chocolate that the cashier had to suggest you buy.
Such a shitty store. Wish it had failed a long time ago.

If I understand correctly, this sale explicitly won’t include shops in stations, airports etc. The high street shops are more or less worthless in my opinion.

I was going to say I can’t remember the last time I intentionally went in one of their stores. It has always been bad value for money.

Unfortunately they have a monopoly in quite a few service stations so there’s no alternative at times.

Until Christmas the last time I went to a WH Smith’s was when they had a record section.
Called in this Christmas for a last minute board game and ended up buying on Amazon. The stores are tired and don’t seem to have a purpose.
