Some very informative and leading articles pop up from that site. I learned a lot about indigenous issues (inflicted by settlers) there. Was really surprised given the associations I have with the brand.
- Comment on New systemd update will bring Windows’ infamous Blue Screen of Death to Linux 11 months ago:
The biggest contributors to linux (the kernel), are corporations: https://news.itsfoss.com/huawei-kernel-contribution/
Is it the case that individual devs add up to a greater total than those? I really hope so. Regardless, surely someone is asking for this stuff or it wouldn't have found investment.
- Comment on New systemd update will bring Windows’ infamous Blue Screen of Death to Linux 11 months ago:
I’m sure someone asked for it.
- Comment on Netherlands returns colonial-era artefacts to Sri Lanka 11 months ago:
“as part of efforts by the former colonial power to redress historical wrongs, officials said”
Stolen in 1765. Returned in 2023. And Sri Lanka are still waiting for more. Doesn’t sound like a great effort on the part of the Dutch.

An osteopath is usually the best choice.

Does it need unanimous vote to pass?

I imagine that these old devices would have seriously degraded batteries, no?
- Comment on Name That Song - A community for getting help identifying music 1 year ago:
There’s a song that I can’t remember the name of and is driving me crazy. It goes: dum da, da dum da da dum da, dum da, da dum da da dum da. Anybody know what that is?
Edit: found it. In case it sounded good to you too It’s Sail Away by Enya.

I support them fully. But it’s asking a lion to become vegetarian.
- Comment on Buying neices and nephews Christmas presents? 1 year ago:
I’ve never heard that before! Where I live, at christmas a hamper contains assorted food and drinks.
- Comment on Buying neices and nephews Christmas presents? 1 year ago:
I started sending a hamper to each household instead with a card for the family. Cheaper and saves a load of time.
- Comment on Unpaid community work is best! 1 year ago:
Their documentation has been frustratingly outdated at times too. But since GitHub is MS owned there are better options. I prefer codeberg for having an actual account on.
- Comment on Search engines compared 1 year ago:
My favourite search engine, Ecosia, is listed. I’d prefer if they didn’t log IPs, but their cause is so good and effective that it’s worth it to me. I can use a VPN if it bothers me.
- Comment on Paedophiles using open source AI to create child sexual abuse content, says watchdog 1 year ago:
It could make it harder to find trafficked and abused children. Now they have to first separate the fake from the real. And, what a sickening job for the poor person taking on this responsibility.
- Comment on Almost 1m people across Europe are homeless on any given night 1 year ago:
Given how some states cook the books (eg, Ireland), I expect its even higher.
In Ireland you can be homeless but not counted if you stayed/stay somewhere precarious. It’s exhausting how much attention we have to pay.
- Comment on If you work remotely, your bosses are probably using software to track you. Here's how they'll catch you slacking off. 1 year ago:
I had a weekend hard disk that I swapped with the work one. No idea if it kept me safe or not, but the OS wasn’t even the same.

I initially thought you were in prison so congratulations on your unexpected freedom!
- Comment on Is America Really That Bad? 1 year ago:
It’s synonymous with exploitation from what I’ve seen. I don’t live there but the news is unavoidable here.
- Comment on Another good reason not to open port 22 1 year ago:
When you put it that way, it sounds beneficial and like something I’d like to use. Thank you!
The article may have been dissing it as a sole strategy.
- Comment on Another good reason not to open port 22 1 year ago:
I have read elsewhere that port knocking is just security through obscurity and isn’t worth considering. I found it when searching for ways to set it up and that put me off.
- Comment on Are you exposing any ports on your home server? 1 year ago:
Do you see much activity there?
I know that they say that security through obscurity doesn’t work, but to me (a novice) it sounds like a good idea to route the default port to a dummy server.
