You see, according to Cocteau's plan I'm the enemy, 'cause I like to think; I like to read. I'm into freedom of speech and freedom of choice. I'm the kind of guy likes to sit in a greasy spoon and wonder - "Gee, should I have the T-bone steak or the jumbo rack of barbecued ribs with the side order of gravy fries?" I WANT high cholesterol. I wanna eat bacon and butter and BUCKETS of cheese, okay? I want to smoke Cuban cigar the size of Cincinnati in the non-smoking section. I want to run through the streets naked with green jello all over my body reading playboy magazine. Why? Because I suddenly might feel the need to, okay, pal? I've SEEN the future. Do you know what it is? It's a 47-year-old virgin sitting around in his beige pajamas, drinking a banana-broccoli shake, singing "I'm an Oscar Meyer Wiener".

SuS HoS vIqeltaHvIS - Comment on Another 62 ‘Girls Do Porn’ Victims Sue Pornhub for $600 Million 1 year ago:
I avoid this by not watching porn that makes me sad. There's plenty of consensual, happy, joyful sex-positive porn out there.
While your point is valid about this particular situation (which is horrible and criminal on multiple levels), your overbroad generalization of porn and the implied assumption of guilt in the viewers is what's led folks to react negatively to your statement.
On a larger level, this kind of statement plays into the puritanical doctrines towards sex that paint it as a negative force, and subsequently leads to the twisting of a positive, creative act into a negative expression of power and rape in those that accept those doctrines.
Porn is not at fault here, nor are its viewers. Those at fault in this crime are the producers and publishers, who were well aware of the abuses happening under their watch, and deceived their viewers into believing they were observing consensual performance acts. I hope that these women get every cent and more, and it would be excellent to see a class action suit from Pornhub's subscribers arise in tandem to and in support of their complaint.

This article stinks of an agenda. The author goes out of their way not to mention the term Fediverse (pluriverse? wtf is that?), and they clearly haven't done their due diligence on Activity Pub. Either they skimped on the research or this article was heavily edited afterwards to remove any concept of the Fediverse being a viable alternative to centralized platforms. Doesn't surprise me coming from Business Insider.
That being said, the overall dynamic the article speaks to is valid, as is the discussion it engenders, so have an upvote despite my gripes with the writing.

Now that's just wrong. Fungoidaphobia and the resulting discrimination against hybrid lifeforms is a real problem, even in today's enlightened Federation, and it's just wrong that you've suffered empty birthdays as a result.
Family over fungus, I always say. But family is where you find it, and seeing as I just happened to be passing through Orion space on my way here, here's a keg of Klingon blood wine and a barrel of Andorian ale for the party, that is if you don't mind a bit of pirate contraband to liven things up a bit...

There's hasn't been anything rewarding about contributing there since about 2014.
- Comment on What are the connotations of Joe Rogan? 1 year ago:
Depends on the context, but generally it indicates a lack of critical thinking and a capacity to be easily swayed by sensational claims. Joe Rogan has no legitimacy as a journalist, and a checkered record when it comes to the veracity of what and who he presents on his show, which has shifted significantly rightward over the years, going from pot smoking and ancient aliens to diet supplements and anti-vaccine narratives. Generally, in the US, Joe Rogan fans are predominantly white, male, and right-wing with a libertarian bias.

I'm looking for a rendition of the Sistine Chapel with God as Danny Devito and Christopher Lloyd as Adam, like it was in the Taxi days, ideally done in oils. All I've got is a buck, but my social account has followers. If I post it, you'll get exposure. What can you do for me?
NFT's were actually a very clever plot put together by us starving artists to combat the hordes of choosing beggars that infest the internet. We all knew it was a scam, just like limited edition glichee prints, but there hasn't been a time in history when artists made enough money not to have to scam folks to survive, so we figured we were more than justified taking the tech-bros for a ride.

Still better than Wesley.

I'm gonna rank them because Sulu
- Sulu - has a sword. The OG. No comparison. Completely outclasses the others, but he's had the most development as a character over the years, so I don't really think it's a fair comparison
- Ortegas - I've been surprisingly impressed with the actress and she's without a doubt the most likeable after Sulu. The recent season has made her really interesting, and I hope the writers keep expanding her character. She's fantastic.
- Tom Paris - best character development after Sulu, has consistently great moments throughout Voyager. I did feel his acting felt lackluster at times, which is why gave Ortegas the spot above
- Mayweather - good solid performance, interesting character with a better background with Paris. I wish the writers had done more with the character.
- Detmer - again great potential in the charcter, but the writers never really let her shine. I wanted to find out more about her, but Discovery was so overshadowed by Michael's character that her character felt disappointingly underused.
- Ro - solid acting, but not much character depth. Never really clicked for me as a "helmsman" - always seemed like she was doing things other than piloting. Never really clicked as part of the crew in the way the rest of the cast did.
- Cartoon Dude - I have no idea what this guy's name is, but he's not Wesley.
- Wesley - I have great sympathy for Wil Wheaton's difficult experiences on set as child actor, but that simply cannot distill the loathing I have for this character. TNG was a near perfect Trek in almost every respect, save when Crusher was in the scene.

I agree - the Mastodon platform, while much better than Twitter, still makes it difficult to find good communities, and a lot of the ragebait gets pushed to the top due to engagement. It takes some active curation of your feed to make it worthwhile.
I recommend using Kbin. It reads both Lemmy and Mastodon, and can classify Mastodon toots based on tagged topic. Additionally, if you're in a community / magazine, Kbin also looks for Mastodon Toots based on moderator assigned tags to that community, and posts it in their Microblog section.

- Comment on Kevin Spacey cleared of sexually assaulting four men 1 year ago:
Spacey's had a bad rep in the industry for his behavior for awhile - he was a well known bully on set, and it was a running joke in LA in the 2000s that you don't get in a cab with Kevin. That being said, I'm not surprised the verdict came down this way - male sexual assault victims are marginalized to the point of invisibility, and mocked when they make a stand.
I have no doubt that he's guilty of what he was accused of and suspect there are probably more victims. The results of this trial speak more to his wealth and power than to his innocence.
- Comment on In light of articles all over Lemmy about Google pushing ManifestV3 onto Chrome and the majority of web users, isn't that an antitrust violation? 1 year ago:
You're right - this is very reminiscent of the Microsoft Antitrust suit of 1998. Technically, per that ruling, Google could be subject to an AT&T style breakup. However, it's pertinent to note that on appeal, the Justice Department chose to settle with Microsoft on the issue of splitting the company rather than go back to trial.
Clearly, in the real world, the ruling didn't stick, as today Microsoft, Apple, and Google all package their browsers on their operating systems. As such, I don't think it likely that enforcing an API standard would exceed the current antitrust abuses that we've come to accept as a fact of daily life, and highly unlikely to attract a serious case from the Justice Department.
That being said, I fully support your effort - we've needed stronger antitrust enforcement for a long time, and AT&T shouldn't have been the high watermark of the Justice Department's efforts in this arena.

Upvote for sympathy and understanding. The way the US treats the disabled is fucking criminal. My advice to you as someone who cares for two fully disabled family members is to live as much as you can under the radar. Income is very tricky, as you're basically forced to work under the radar to survive and maintain your benefits - which are nowhere near the cost of living. Never let a savings account get above $2000 (split accounts if need be), and never tell your social workers more about your life than what they need to know to help you.
Regarding your landlord, use your disability to your advantage. There's very stringent laws where I am (California) that give additional eviction protections to the disabled - you may be able to use similar laws in your area to keep him off your back. This is one area where your social worker can help - ask specifically for rent assistance and mention constructive eviction given that he's threatening to kick you out over a two day delay in rent.
