they’ve shown her throughout the season rebuilding a motorcycle

I feel like the “what is a star date?” line was to retcon the issue that Kirk will just throw random numbers for every date in his log in the following years

what’s that word at the end? I’m getting KPOK
- Comment on Immortals must be riddled with cancer thanks to gene errors in their dna replication. 1 week ago:
this solution for immortality breaks thermodynamics. given that state, the body can no longer process nutrients to maintain self replication, you can starve cancer cells. either you’re saved by malnourishment or you die from it.
- Comment on Episode Discussion | Star Trek: Strange New Worlds | 3x08 "Four-and-a-Half-Vulcans" 1 week ago:
this episode was the most lower decks episode in the show, and I don’t say it as a compliment.
- Comment on Michelle Yeoh Admits “We Could Have Done Better” With ‘Star Trek: Section 31’ 1 week ago:
a lot of hate for the movie in this thread, hate the suits that develop projects based on the success of others instead of going for what has made their brand successful over the years. if they wanted new audiences they could have tried with something original, but the numbers said otherwise.

- Comment on Jonathan Frakes Surprised ‘Strange New Worlds’ Star Trek Spoof Was Controversial; Talks Directing ‘Academy’ And More 3 weeks ago:
yes, I agree that the “not serious” label is probably not that accurate, but they were written to have fun with the material, and I don’t agree that any of them had the cheese in the B-plot. They were adventures, most of them, but also with a silly aspect that sits at the core of Trek.

I think you’re not remembering the amount of silliness on previous shows, let’s analyze TNG S2:
Serious Episodes 59% (13 episodes)
- “Where Silence Has Lease” - “Loud as a Whisper” - “The Schizoid Man” - “Unnatural Selection” - “A Matter of Honor” - “The Measure of a Man” - “Contagion” - “Time Squared” - “The Icarus Factor” - “Pen Pals” - “Q Who” - “The Emissary” - “Peak Performance”
Not Serious Episodes: 41% (9 episodes)
- “The Child” (Troi’s immaculate space-conception) - “Elementary, Dear Data” (“Holodeck gone wrong” story) - “The Outrageous Okona” (Data learns comedy) - “The Dauphin” (Shapeshifting monster princess) - “The Royale” (Another “holodeck gone wrong” story with no holodeck) - “Samaritan Snare” (We are smart) - “Up the Long Ladder” (Space irish) - “Manhunt” (Lwaxana Troi is on the hunt for a husband) - “Shades of Gray” (A clip show)
I think it’s a good proportion of silly so far…

What do people actually do with these figurines?
they go outside with them and ask random people on the street where are their nuclear wessels, of course.
- Comment on "Wario" is a Japanese portmanteu of Mario and "warui" (bad), but in Finnish "Wario" is also a homonym of "varjo", "shadow". 1 month ago:
I believe this is confirmed as Waluigi’s cap has an upside down L in the front

- Comment on Star Trek: Red Shirts #1 shows us the classic cannon fodder at times survives to be badass - Graphic Policy 1 month ago:
Interesting comic and definitely a fun read, although the first issue is pretty much all setup and a smidge of nu-trek (a lot of “I joined Starfleet for the adrenaline rush” kind of characters).
the definitive red shirt story is not even Star Trek, it’s Red Shirts by John Scalzi.
- Comment on Cold water was probably less refreshing for early humans due to most cold water likely only being available during colder weather. 2 months ago:
hot water is a relatively modern luxury. you probably have a living ancestor that remembers not growing up with easy, or any, access to hot water, just hurtfully cold, refreshing water.
- Comment on One Bad Mother? In Defense of Star Trek's Lwaxana Troi 3 months ago:
The Timicin episode (S04E22 “Half a life”) always makes me tear up at the end. The emotional struggle that Lwaxana had is heartbreaking, and speaks a lot about the role that we give our elders in our society. It’s something that we still struggle with more than 20 years later.

I live in South America, it’s not, every groundskeeper in my medium-income condo neighborhood has one, and makes working from home really difficult, specially in the summer when you want to open a window

I love the Cerritos being in this collection. If a nu-trek show needs all the appreciation of their audience is Lower Decks. I’ll never lose hope that there’s will be a comeback.
- Comment on Lower Decks Eulogizing 8 months ago:
I was watching the finale with my partner. I started to tear up during the “science besties” speech. She asked me why, it’s just a cartoon! It broke my heart to know this was the last ride on the Cerritos for the foreseeable future. To be fair I had a similar emotional reaction when I saw the TNG finale and I’m having an smaller reaction while writing this.
jeez I need to find therapist.
- Comment on “Star Trek Origin” Movie Reportedly Headed To Greenlight For Production Start In Early 2025 9 months ago:
the movie is just a long take of a young James T. Kirk driving a convertible while listening to the Beastie Boys. The movie ends as he drives it into a canyon.
I’d probably watch it - Comment on Coming on Lemmy and complaining because there are too many Linux users is like going in to a brothel and complaining that there are too many hookers 10 months ago:
