- Comment on Google looks to be fully shutting down unsupported extensions and ad blockers in Chrome, such as uBlock Origin – which might push some folks to switch to Firefox 1 month ago:
guessing you want that codec for a reason
It is the default most widely used codec for devices and video 4K and higher resolution. It is just what nearly all new / modern cameras come with. You don’t really get a choice.

True, but the other argument is just try adblock lite, it works fine… It isn’t as powerful but I would rather have a fully functional daily browser than one with lesser video playback and conferencing functions.
- Comment on Google looks to be fully shutting down unsupported extensions and ad blockers in Chrome, such as uBlock Origin – which might push some folks to switch to Firefox 1 month ago:
Ad block lite does a good enough job without me changing to be honest, gain the point being is that there are more problems with my using Firefox as a primary browser than ad blocking benefits.

I guess, but the comment is a direct assertion against Firefox growing from this change. You sort of prove my point by suggestion another sub variant of the chrome ecosystem.

Why would I use multiple browsers if I can achieve nearly everything in one? I would my much rather use Edge or Safari for everything than Firefox plus another browser.

The lack of HVEC/h.265 support is kind of a deal breaker. I need it to view h.265 security cameras and the occasional movie streamed via browser.

- Comment on Haiku OS is what Linux used to be. 2 months ago:
Reading through the comments the only “used to be” part the video creator is talking about is that it is a alien hobby OS that hardly anyone uses or knows about. Don’t take that as a negative but he is just talking about the feels. Other than that technically their isn’t a lot in common with Linux from the past.

How so ? The default browser on Windows is Edge, people keep installing Chrome? Chrome is available on MacOS, yet people stick with Safari?
- Comment on Google pulls the plug on uBlock Origin, leaving over 30 million Chrome users susceptible to intrusive ads 3 months ago:
For all the firefox fans out there it might be good to note there have consistently been more Safri users than Firefox users since 2014. Hell Safari has been the number two browser by market share since 2015.
Browsers have to get very SHITTY or a new browser has to have a killer app to unseat a dominate one.
- Comment on KnowBe4 mistakenly hires North Korean hacker, faces infostealer attack 3 months ago:
This report makes it sound like they had a video call with camera on, vs other reports where they recommend people have camera on because they didn’t
also used AI tools to create a profile picture and match that face during the video conference calls.
This doesn’t sounds like the video was on / faked only that they had a call where the profile picture was used.
- Comment on Tesla’s Share of U.S. Electric Car Market Falls Below 50% 4 months ago:
As expected… COMBINED other manufactures are starting to make meaningful amounts of EVs. Individually it is funny how few they sell however.
Tesla still sells nearly 10x the number of EVs to the next most popular brand.

Likely has more to do with the cost of 1-2million per station vs 250,000 to 500,000 for a typical EV fast charging station

Electrolysis is at least 25% less as efficient than just storing the electricity in battery’s as it produces both oxygen and hydrogen and then you need to spend some more of the power compressing it…. Even before you get to transporting it. Otherwise we would just have electrolytes plants all over already.
- Comment on Games where an emulated console version outclasses the PC port? 4 months ago:
Sometimes the controls are just better on the Emulators at least on older PC ports as they would do dumb stuff like require a mouse / keyboard for menus etc.
On the steam deck in particular when getting steam versions of games with lower steam deck compatibility ratings it often comes down to odd menu issues or controller support.
- Comment on Elon Musk Openly Advocates for Overthrowing the Government of Bolivia, The Country with the Largest Lithium Reserves in the World 4 months ago:
There is no clean, cheap, efficient source of hydrogen. You still need to transport it around burning more fuel to transport it all around.
There are already multiple ways to get clean electricity for BEVs and the supply chain is cleaner… Plant, grid, car.
Also coal is already a TINY TINY % of US power production, www.eia.gov/energyexplained/us-energy-facts/ , going to natural gas sourced hydrogen would be a step backward.
When source to consumption is considered BEV is the cleanest option so far.
- Comment on Elon Musk Openly Advocates for Overthrowing the Government of Bolivia, The Country with the Largest Lithium Reserves in the World 4 months ago:
but there’s evidence that this shift is already happening.
Shift? Dude that article has been debunked already.
thebusinessjournal.com/blog-harris-ranch-sets-rec…
BEV is effectively running on coal.
Funny thing is that EVs are still cleaner than ICE even when powered by a Coal grid

The FCEV is going to be fueled from fossil fuels for the foreseeable future
Today, about 95% of all hydrogen is produced from steam reforming of natural gas.
www.energy.gov/eere/…/hydrogen-fuel-basics#:~:tex….
EV battery packs however can be nearly fully recycled back into more batteries.

You do know that nearly all fuel cell vehicles also use lithium and a battery pack, as well the fuel cell it self uses a number of rare earth metals.

Natural language is really messy… Could go through many variants on things. Then you get text to speech issues due to audio quality / accents… And you need an engine that can “best guess / best match” based on what it has or ask for clarification.
Similarly you can as for TWO of a complex thing I would like Two… meals, with, XXXX

Mc Donald’s already has customer self serve kiosks and mobile apps with the full menu that limit you as to which items you can add or remove.
How did they screw this up and leave things open ended for the LLM?
IE why was the LLM not referencing a list of valid options with every request and then replying with what the possible options are. This is something LLMs are actually able to do fairly well, then layer on top the EXACT same HARD constraints they already have on the kiosk and mobile app to ensure orders are valid?

As per the Ecobee notice this only impacts the two original models and they still function as regular thermostats still, they are just not providing any of the smart / cloud features anymore.
Newer units support local homekit control, which can also be paired with open systems like Home Assistant for full local control for automation.
