In the rest of the world, we have air cushions too in our chip bags.
They don’t need to be 75% of the volume to work.

I have not read many other Trek books, any I should get my hands on?
- Comment on Throwing out some DS9 pop-up trivia on this watch-through 2 weeks ago:
Since you are obviously a being of culture, let me recommend ‘A stitch in time’ if you haven’t read it.
It was written and read (as audiobook) by Andrew Robinson, the man who played Garak.
The audiobook especially is wonderful if you are a Garak aficionado.

- Comment on UK firm's 98% efficient hybrid motor delivers record performance 4 weeks ago:
To be clear, this doesn’t make a hybrid 98% efficient.
The problem with hybrid cars isn’t really the 2% loss in the electric part. It’s not even the complexity of combining two motors and a generator in a single drive train. It’s not even the staggeringly shitty 40-50% efficiency, it’s the whole guzzling dinosaur juice thing.

Thanks! I wasn’t expecting to actually get an answer, that was a fascinating read.

So someone had claude write a C compiler in rust, which doesn’t work, because it can’t find the C standard libraries.
Would be interesting to read how claude was prompted to do this.

This is an interesting but very long read.
It’s also very relevant to right-to-repair, but approaches it from an anti-circumvention angle.

- Comment on The Sodium-Ion Battery Revolution Has Started 5 months ago:
I don’t know if the same applies to sodium batteries, early indicators are that they are less sensitive to depth of discharge as a degradation driver.
Still, the expected lifetime is going to be at least between 4-8 times NCM (traditional li-ion), which is massive.

Little sparse on detail, I regularly run LLMs on 5 year old CPUs so no problem there, I wonder how the approach compares in memory requirements to existing quantization methods.

You need to look at a sample under a microscope to tell.
You could simply bind it with another paint and leave it be.

I think it’s for the defence industry to network and customers (militaries and other state actors mostly) to get to know what’s available.
