- Comment on The Verge shows how Google search is useless 1 month ago:

only thing i can figure is maybe technically you could call an ellipsoidal prism a cylinder also? seems like a stretch.

three nations did not want to lose their soverign rights to equal thirds of this lake. what is in the lake.
- Comment on In movies a strong woman is manly. (big muscles, aggressive, punches people, etc.) Is that really the way it is? 2 months ago:
musculature is not solely masculine, but if that’s the association for you, it makes sense that you feel a woman with muscles “starts looking like a man”. a similar circular reasoning would be arrived at if you simply considered strength itself to be a masculine trait.
- Comment on In movies a strong woman is manly. (big muscles, aggressive, punches people, etc.) Is that really the way it is? 2 months ago:
a woman can be physically strong without “turning into a man”.
strength of character? how about “nomadland” or “meek’s cutoff”?

- Comment on Why do some states have so much trouble with lotteries, but no issue at all with pawn shops, cash it here, or title loan shops? You've shown you don't mind preying on the poor, is it just giving them 5 months ago:
some states hamstring well-meaning local authorities from excluding predatory businesses with ordinances
- Comment on You're Not Imagining It: Google Search Results Are Getting Worse, Study Finds 5 months ago:
i was wondering what would it take to make a free/open/noncommercial search solution maintained by a collective (like wikipedia or something). search is too important to be ruined for everyone by corporations.

shrug. homemade seal vs boiling water cycles. maybe you will get lucky.
- Comment on What would it take to change an Internal Combustion Engine Car to an EV? 8 months ago:
Not sure there is a truly common package. Each manufacturer seems to be doing their own thing (unless they’re a small fry directly buying parts from some other manufacturer already doing their own thing). So I guess a common package might be “whatever’s in a Tesla”, but that’s not a very satisfying answer.
- Comment on Fix leaking kettle 8 months ago:
i would probably replace. the fix will probably annoyingly fail. with a simpler kettle without an internal level, i suggest measuring the water you put in, so you waste neither water nor energy.

When I’ve mulled over this question, placement of the batteries is usually the sticking point. Electric cars are designed to put the heavy batteries in a relatively advantageous spot for handling.

- Comment on How do you wrap your head around large established software projects in order to contribute to them? 10 months ago:
I guess it could help to talk to someone familiar with it, maybe they would know the lay of the land. Otherwise it’s a matter of deciphering the architecture of the ancients. Your ability to do that entirely depends on how obscure it all is to you. Many software projects have been born out of the incomprehensibility and unmaintainability of older otherwise-perfectly-functional codebases ☺️
