I mean, suit yourself if you insist that you can or only want to do it with a throwaway. I'm saying you can do it with similar services like tutanota as the failover address, eliminating the need for a throwaway.
- Comment on Proton Mail Discloses User Data Leading to Arrest in Spain 7 months ago:
You can simply use either: a different protonmail address or a similar service like tutanota.
- Comment on Dating app Bumble will no longer require women to make the first move | CNN Business 8 months ago:
I've met several partners off the internet through means where images were not involved, but it was clearly geared towards dating still (mainly reddit, if you would believe it). Some like to get the images out of the way early, others talk for weeks before that becomes an issue. There's still some that then drop out (I'm not the most attractive lad to ever be a lad, plus preferences exist, as you say) but others worked out great.
My strengths don't lie in my style or looks, so dating apps are basically useless to me, yet I have no trouble in attracting partners in circumstances where my personality is a bit more in focus.
I think there's a space for apps like those for sure. Since there's plenty where you can go purely or predominantly by looks, no one has to go for an app where that is the case.
- Comment on Are you prepared for the ramifications of windows 10 EoL? 8 months ago:
Using rufus it's pretty easy to install windows 11 without meeting their bullshit requirements.
Did that for my work laptop, which is getting old but runs just fine. Including windows 11.
Plenty of reasons to switch to Linux, but this can be circumvented. And anyone who doesn't know how to, because it is too complicated shouldn't really switch to Linux anyway IMO, because they will already run into trouble with finding compatible printers, getting software for proprietary hardware they are using, etc.
- Comment on Germany just now approved new laws that make setting up solar on your balcony super easy 8 months ago:
I got my stuff from priwatt. They got most types of solutions. Possibly a bit more expensive than elsewhere, but they handle a lot of the paperwork as well.
- Comment on Germany just now approved new laws that make setting up solar on your balcony super easy 8 months ago:
Means a meter that records input as well as output and no, Germany so far does not have anything in place where regular folk get paid for what they input.
But as I said, everything I generate goes directly into my own consumption, so I don't mind much.
- Comment on Germany just now approved new laws that make setting up solar on your balcony super easy 8 months ago:
I got a tiny one on my balcony last year. With WFH it doesn't put anything through to the grid but already lowered our consumption by 1/10, which is pretty amazing. Plugs into a regular socket. Power provider exchanged the meter to be able to handle it for free, and everything else was also very smooth. I am very happy with it and would put up more, if I had the space.

Recently saw a video of a German train driver who is also suffering from this nonsense and sometimes has difficulties seeing signage, etc.
- Comment on Content is King? - How it sucked out the joy of personal websites 11 months ago:
On youtube barely, on twitch for sure. Generally you would have more income streams like a patreon and some such. Maybe even merch. If you're doing it all solo, you can easily earn 4-5k per month with these numbers and that's often better than many full time jobs.
- Comment on Reddit seeks to launch IPO in March 11 months ago:
The second they're publicly traded layoffs will simply be part of the cycle regardless of stock performance. C-Level must be seen to do SOMETHING to generate profits, or at least try. Regulators suck hard at following up on anything, but you gotta play by the book to keep them from sniffing around.
I'm also fully expecting this to be a case of butchering the pig. Huffman and the other cunts in charge will sell of their shares, make millions and run it into the ground. Much less scrutiny if a publicly traded company evaporates due to bad stock performance than when a private company suddenly disintegrates and the C-Level runs away with all the cash. Blame it on the STONK crowd and you're literally golden.
I'm sure they'll try and make as much money on the way out as possible, but tinfoil: This is the start of the end with a certain degree of intent by those in charge of that fucking company.
- Comment on Reddit seeks to launch IPO in March 11 months ago:
They will short the fuck out of it. There is literally no way this company can make money without making the product so much worse they will really start bleeding the users they need for revenue. It will explode on launch week and crash two or three weeks later.
- Comment on Teen deepfake victim pushes for federal law targeting AI-generated explicit content 11 months ago:
My dude there are people out there thinking they're in a relationship with Johnny fucking Depp because some Nigerian scammer sent them five badly photoshopped pictures. Step out of your bubble, maybe. This shit isn't easy to spot for the vaaaaaast majority of people and why would this lie with the victim to sort of clear their name or hope that idiots realize it's fake?
Especially with and around teenagers who can barely think further than their next meal?
Good lord.

- Comment on Warning: You cannot delete posts or comments on Lemmy. It stays up forever, and is in direct violation of GDPR and other national privacy laws. 1 year ago:
You are slightly wrong. The GDPR applies to everyone dealing with personal data on the regular, which you always have to assume with open text boxes. There have been plenty rulings already imposing fines on individual, private citizens for their misconduct in violation of the gdpr.
While Lemmy as a system might be exempt, anyone running Lemmy for sure isn't, as long as it regularly processes data of EU citizens, which it does.
As for the devs, the gdpr does require privacy by design. One could argue the Devs themselves aren't running it at all, so their software doesn't have to adhere to it, but individual instance hosts could still be hit with fines for running it as is.
- Comment on What's up with Epic Games? 1 year ago:
Exactly. Steam didn't invest in marketing nonsense and gimmicks to get people on their platform. For consumers it is simply the superior product, DRM not withstanding.
They got their issues, no doubt. But I have never seen a quasi monopoly be more consumer oriented than steam.

Netflix and Amazon prime simply won't work with VPNs active, which I use for work and privacy towards my ISP.
I won't compromise my security for their bad services. Living in a non US country, we are also always several years behind on content being offered.
Yeah, nah. The paying customer always pays for the percieved sins of non customers.
Set sail.
- Comment on Car dealers say they can’t sell EVs, tell Biden to slow their rollout 1 year ago:
Took us forever and is still contested now and again, but we managed to force the sales process yo include product managers or owners. Without an estimate from them, which is created in coordination with the engineers and developers, no offer is being made anymore. Certain sales people are butthurt, because the estimated costs are often too high for our "price sensitive clients" as in: they don't know how to sell our products on added value rather than on lower cost.

No one needs to buy a rival or steal their tech anymore. Just get them to launch on the stock exchanges and then destroy them with your wallstreet buddies right there with some good old short and distort and cellar boxing, etc.
- Comment on The Difficulty Paradox 1 year ago:
I really don't agree with: get stronger must also have world get more difficult. This is how you get scaling difficulty, where you never feel like you're going anywhere, because every upgrade is made pointless by enemies just becoming more dangerous in turn.
Bullethell rogue likes like vampire survivor are getting it pretty right in my opinion. Just have the chance to get ridiculously powerful, but take a bunch of tries. Then add in Hades way of not ending the story with your death and failure, the nemesis system which is sadly patented and you'd have a fairly ideal game where some things will inevitably kill you, but you will get better and the small stuff will only get you still, if you are not paying attention.
- Comment on Why advertise on YouTube? 1 year ago:
I also remeber the plague of malvertising with drive by viruses and Trojans. I haven't had a single positive virus on my systems in over a decade thanks to adblockers.
It's insane, because the internet looked entirely different as well. Not these monolithic sites but scattered around.

- Comment on How authoritarian governments are using generative AI 1 year ago:
I had this discussion when chatgpt first blew up. The amount of this kind of stuff will increase, but it has always been there and I strongly doubt it will convince anyone who wasn't already convinced.
But with the larger amount they can manage, they will reach a wider willing audience. Russian propaganda has been incredibly effective and if the bottleneck was humans, that was removed or is being removed.
Like we don't already have enough issues.
