No flavor‽ Sure if there’s 6 of them on top of a burger bun you won’t taste it. There’s a Greek restaurant near me that serves bread covered in sesame seeds and it’s a very noticeable flavor improvement. Have you ever had sesame sticks? They’re delicious.

TBF, most land predators can’t even survive in water. The real perfect predators are dolphins. They were in the water, left it, and returned just to show us they still got it.
- Comment on Trump calls Democrats who told US military to refuse illegal orders 'traitors' who should face death penalty 3 weeks ago:
This is kind of a silly thing the argue about. No significant amount of soldiers are going to disobey orders on principle. Anybody that does will be publicly crucified.
We can imagine a spectrum of individual thought to systemic thought. The individual thinker says they aren’t racist because they’ve never treated a POC poorly. The systemic thinker calls them racist for chanting “all lives matter” and driving back to a gated neighborhood. Similarly, the individual thinker wants soldiers to disobey orders as a means of getting things done. The systemic thinker recognizes that a military is a purpose-built system to prevent individual autonomy. Soldiers disobeying orders will never be a lever of pressure against the powers that be.

I interpreted this to mean that you need to learn a lot of math in order to have a career in astronomy. I don’t think OP thought it was possible to actually go to the star and math was the limiting factor.

Babe, you got a Haas? I said I wanted to try CNC, not this Fischer Price Tinker Toy shit.
(I don’t actually hate on Haas but I know they’re often more light-duty than some other options.)
- Comment on Trump floats dropping Spain from NATO alliance 2 months ago:
A NATO summit earlier this year increased it. Basically over the next few years, NATO countries will have to spend more on defense. The 5% isn’t all direct military funding though. Some infrastructure that contributes indirectly to defense can be counted toward the 5%.

No they wouldn’t. Banning straws is politically expedient, not effective policy. Straws are a tiny drop in the bucket of plastic waste. But they’re visible, largely optional, and have alternatives. It’s easy to make them look bad so a politician can look big by banning them. Your average person can feel like they’re making a difference by buying a reusable straw. The industrial scale plastic waste that happens out of sight is allowed to continue because nobody cares about actually doing anything. Everyone wants to feel like they’re doing something.
- Comment on South Korea says immigration raid could impact US investment – DW – 09/11/2025 2 months ago:
I used to work for a Japanese auto manufacturing company that had plants all over the world, including several in the US. We would frequently have Japanese engineers or executives on 2-week to multi-year assignments in US plants. Obviously they always had all the proper visas and whatnot. I have to imagine they are much more hesitant to send people over now.

As a fighting game fan, this one shows promise. The devs are the Cannon brothers. They are the guys that founded Evo, the biggest fighting game event. They also created and freely licensed rollback netcode, the gold standard for fighting game netcode. the core of the game will likely be excellent. The f2p model hasn’t really been done at this level in fighting games. Most games are sold at full price and they sell costumes and characters as dlc. I’m hoping this game will get more people to try fighting games and hopefully it doesn’t become a loot box simulator.

I was an expat living in Japan during the pandemic. I actually think they have great cost of living. My apartment in Osaka was like $575/month for a very modern place. Food is more expensive in the states but you really don’t need a car.

- Comment on Study shows a link between obesity and what’s on local restaurant menus 5 months ago:
My follow up questions:
- Do unhealthy food options lead to obesity, or do lifestyles drive demand for food options (or some mix of the two)?
- Regarding the income relationship: does income drive lifestyle or are unhealthy foods cheaper to offer?
I personally believe the first option in both of these questions, though I’d love to see some formal research on it.

I have a special syringe for this. I had impacted ear wax a few years ago and I went to urgent care to get it rinsed. Turns out my other ear was also impacted, just not as bad. After the rinse, I could hear in 3D. I felt like I shouldn’t have been allowed to drive home because it felt like I was on acid it was so overwhelming. On the drive home I heard a crappy Honda with a bad exhaust drive by and I was scream-laughing at how visceral it was.
Now I rinse regularly in the shower and don’t get to have free acid trips :(

The people going to a store usually aren’t only buying one thing and people probably wouldn’t buy as much garbage if it weren’t easy to buy from the Internet so I’m not sure this is an apples to apples comparison. Also not everyone going to a store are driving.
