Fediverse data is extremely public. Even if Lemm.ee isn’t US hosted (I have no idea either way), it’s certainly federated with instances in the US.
- Comment on Alex Kurtzman Gives Live-Action Comedy Update, Says Star Trek Can “Broaden” 3 days ago:
Overwriting canon is fine, actually. TOS never had an issue with it, and PIC S1E10 gave Data a much better send-off by breaking canon from Nemesis and other Soong episodes. Gene Roddenberry’s assistant officially decanonized TAS, but better writers still acknowledge it.
The idea of “canon” in regard to fictional worlds is dubious anyway, especially ones developed across multiple writers and generations. I’m fine with stuffing Pike’s comment about women on the bridge into the dustbin of history, and not stressing about what decade the Eugenics Wars happened, and assuming PIC S3 doesn’t exist.
- Comment on Interview: Alex Kurtzman on Section 31 and the "evolution" of Star Trek 6 days ago:
Prodigy does start a bit weak, much like TNG and Lower Decks did. The writers find their groove pretty quickly though, and the rest of the series is great!
- Comment on Interview: Alex Kurtzman on Section 31 and the "evolution" of Star Trek 1 week ago:
SNW and Prodigy both fit the bill, in spite of your vague objection to the latter. Add Lower Decks and the better seasons of DIS (2, 4, 5) when the kids are a bit older.
- Comment on "Section 31" early review round-up 1 week ago:
The reason he asked about SNW is because SNW might actually not have the problems you’re describing. You mentioned two tropes of modern Trek - the galactic danger and Section 31 - but SNW doesn’t use those tropes. Did you misread his question?
As for the advancement of society (optimism vs aspiration) - TOS shows us a Federation that has moved beyond money and greed, sure. But war is still possible; Errand of Mercy established that there had recently been a war with the Klingons, decades before DIS and SNW portrayed it. The death penalty is still a possible punishment for Federation officers (maybe citizens too?) in The Menagerie. McCoy makes bigoted comments toward his ship’s first officer regularly. If anything, SNW shows a more advanced society than TOS did. (I can’t imagine SNW Pike expressing TOS Pike’s opinion about women on the bridge!) Surely it makes sense that SNW’s society should resemble TOS’s more than TNG’s.
But the bigger sense of advancement across the entire franchise is still here too. A key point in SNW S1E1 is that society has moved beyond partisan struggles and infighting - the ability to explore space and live in the stars is tied directly to this sense of social harmony which we still lack. This was also true in previous eras of Trek, and is exactly why warp travel is the criteria to be contacted by the Federation. SNW shows that these writers get it, and continue to get it.

He asked you about SNW, and you forgot to talk about SNW.
- Comment on Star Trek:Section 31 Premiere Reaction (ft Emily Inkpen) and Q&A with Michelle Yeoh and Rob Kazinsky [Spoiler-free mini-review] 2 weeks ago:
Of the previous Trek movies, we have:
A deliberately ponderous sci-fi epic
A submarine story fueled by revenge
A crew who risks everything to save one friend
A reunion special with a “save the whales” message front and center
An ego project with ambition
A political/spy thriller
A crossover for the fans
A zombie movie
A long episode of TNG
The second movie again but worse
A reboot with plot holes
A misunderstood action flick
A Fast & Furious movie
So how is this “not Trek” while all of those are Trek?
- Comment on I just finished watching Voyager... again 3 weeks ago:
There are great episodes in the first two seasons. You have to search for them though. (Please don’t miss Measure of a Man)

I need to watch this episode sometime.

- Comment on Who had it worse: Enterprise-D or Voyager? 4 months ago:
If you’re a crew member on the Enterprise D, you have died. Probably more than once. Between Timescape, Cause and Effect, Yesterday’s Enterprise, and All Good Things, the ENT-D has been blown to smithereens with all crew on board multiple times.
Voyager did this too, but far fewer times that I recall.
- Comment on Starfleet Academy Showrunners Explain Inspiration for Bringing Voyager's EMH Back to Star Trek 5 months ago:
It’s actually much more similar to how they kept using Majel Barrett as the voice of the computer across multiple series.
And it makes sense in-universe for The Doctor to be 800 years old and still working; it’s not like they’re contriving a way for Harry Kim or Phlox to be there, much as we may want to see them again.

- Comment on Canon Connections: DIS 5x05 - Mirrors 8 months ago:
I’ve had the impression that in the Mirror Universe, it was only the humans/terrans which behaved differently. Everyone else we see seems like their usual selves (accounting for different circumstances of course).
The DS9 episodes throw a wrench in this of course, with Kira being a very different person and the oppressed terrans being sympathetic.
- Comment on Canon Connections: DIS 5x05 - Mirrors 8 months ago:
In regard to the Breen, I would note that Star Trek Adventures: Klingon Core Rulebook says “They only present themselves to non-Breen in full-body suits that hide their identities, and their bodies disintegrate when they die while wearing those suits. While this is an admirable trait – it means Breen cannot be taken prisoner, an attitude in line with the teachings of Kahless – it has made it impossible to determine the true face of the Breen.” This is a pretty cool explanation for how Worf could be right even after Kira and Dukat stole their suits.
I know STA isn’t canon but I still like this reasoning.

This is the second Star Trek season premiere that features the destruction of a Soong-type Android, after Picard S1E1 “Rememberance” introduced and murdered Dahj.
- Comment on What games do you replay regularly/annually ? 10 months ago:
Symphony of the Night
Also, if you enjoy Doom 1 and 2, I highly recommend seeking out Heretic and Strife. Heretic has amazing level design using the Doom engine to create places that feel like towns and medieval churches and stuff. And Strife somehow managed to make Doom into an interconnected world with a decent story.
I’m not big on Hexen - the respawning enemies and the lack of weapons (there’s only 4, technically 12 but you only have access to 4) bugged me.
- Comment on Short games with lots of replay value? 10 months ago:
Spelunky is a wonderful roguelike platformer which avoids a lot of escalation problems that “action roguelites” tend to suffer from
Besides that, I’m partial to the Megaman X series (and the sequel series Megaman Zero and ZX). X4 in particular is always fun to put in and replay.
- Comment on Interview: Jeri Ryan On Taking Seven From Borg To Bi Captain Of The Enterprise To ‘Star Trek: Legacy’ 11 months ago:
The deaths of

Hugh and Icheb
were particularly upsetting for me, personally (especially the graphic nature of the latter). PIC S1 had way too much “let’s kill people for no good reason” events.
I’d be perfectly happy if the dead PIC characters just showed up alive and well in a later show, no reason given. (They already did this with Q, right?)

- Comment on Interview: Jeri Ryan On Taking Seven From Borg To Bi Captain Of The Enterprise To ‘Star Trek: Legacy’ 11 months ago:
I don’t think the actor was bad. Having him be a doctor on Legacy (he is a doctor, right?) would be a good use of the actor and the character’s past without having it be the focus of the show.
- Comment on 11 months ago:
I watched all 3 seasons. Season 3 should be recognized for its special effects and acting - the new characters and classic ones both perform well. Too bad it was in service to such an unneeded story.
- Comment on 11 months ago:
SNW is in the upper tier of Star Trek shows.
- Comment on Janeway’s “Tuvix” Decision Divides ‘Star Trek: Voyager’ Cast: “It Kind Of Hurt Her Character” 1 year ago:
Best solution: 1: Sedate Tuvix. He must not be conscious for the next steps. 2: Make a transporter clone of him (like Riker/Boimler) 3: Separate one of the Tuvixes into Tuvok/Neelix, leave the other as Tuvix
Everyone wins!

“Decades before” Star Trek 2009 would be in the post-Enterprise, pre-TOS/Kelvin era. We know the first Romulan war happened somewhere in there; anything else?
- Comment on TrekMovie.com: Patrick Stewart Reveals New Star Trek Movie Script Featuring Jean-Luc Picard Is In The Works 1 year ago:
We basically need more Jeri Ryan, in any context. And “Crash” LaForge should be there, she was fun too. Just definitely don’t use the same writers from PIC.
- Comment on TrekMovie.com: Patrick Stewart Reveals New Star Trek Movie Script Featuring Jean-Luc Picard Is In The Works 1 year ago:
I have two reasons to not write this off:
- Picard S2 would have been just fine as a 2-or-3-part episode, and not a 10-episode full season.
- The first 4 episodes of Picard S3, watched together by themselves, become the second-best TNG movie (after First Contact of course).
If they were announcing Picard season 4 I’d just groan and ignore it. But I think the cast and crew could actually pull off a decent 1.5-2 hours of good entertainment.
