In other words, this ending feels like the series has been axed.
I agree, it’s been so confusing for so long that I can’t help but feel like the publisher begged Fujimoto to end it.

Idk, I think part 2 definitely started out good, but the last, what, 50 something chapters were a confusing mess (which is still like 1.5 years of chapters). There was something there, maybe? But idk, it never went anywhere

Highly recommend Yamada Kintetsu’s other works like Telework Yotabanashi and Kasane to Subaru.
Other works could be Wotakoi and She Loves To Cook, She Loves to Eat, It Takes Two Tomorrow, Too. These are less forward with the sex side or dont mention it at all, but they’re still adults and acting like it.

Hmm I see where you’re coming from, but I’m not sure. Like yeah, it’s better than where he was just a few chapters ago, but he’s still the same miserable, mistreated guy. Still no agency over himself. Back in the same old rut where he came from.

Not sure I’d call it a happy ending tbh
- Comment on Chainsaw Man' by Tatsuki Fujimoto has Officially Ended Today with Chapter 232 1 week ago:
Hm, I don’t know what to think of this ending. This has “it was all a dream” energy. Like, what was the point? The entire last arc was a confusing mess and it’s kind of left as that.
I’m sincerely hoping this is a fake-out ending, but that’s probably too much to hope for.

Golden Kamuy Final Season
I really need to continue with Golden Kamuy. I paused S3 at some point, but I don’t really remember why and never picked it back up

Kensuke Ushio
He’s an incredible composer. His action focused stuff is great, but I think he shines in stuff like Journal Witch, A Silent Voice, Liz And The Blue Bird or moments like the pool scene in the Chainsaw Man film. I adore the way he plays such a mellow, but emotive piano with such lovely and delicate sounds

Good season, with some bangers. I’ve watched:
- Journal With Witch: what an incredible anime. It deals with the subject material of loss so delicately and beautifully, enhanced by the nuanced characters and incredible soundtrack.
- You And I Are Polar Opposites: very fun romcom, with a delightful cast of characters. Reminds me a lot of Tsuredure Children, but more connected. If there’s one criticism, it’s that there’s one particular piece of the soundtrack that’s basically a corpo ad track.
- Frieren: great as always. A fair bit more downtime than the last one, but tbh, those are some of my favourite moments.
- Fate/Strange Fake: it’s Fate, so I had to watch it. It started off feeling like it was still setting up for like 6 episodes, but after that it got going properly. I like it a lot. Good visuals and interesting twists on the Fate/Stay Night formula and some FGO characters. The Sawano soundtrack is unusual for Fate and took some getting used to, but I don’t hate it. I also don’t think it’s particularly great. I like the OP though.
- Hell’s Paradise S2: started off fine, but ramped up quite quick. Solid action in an interesting setting. Some of the big fights kinde kept following the same formula, but others changed it up a little thankfully. It looks like it’s coming to a close, but I’m not sure it’s going to be this season.
- The Invisible Man and His Soon-to-Be Wife: a lovely romcom with an adorable FMC. I picked this up later in the season, and I’m glad I did.
- Champignon Witch: first few eps I really enjoyed. Luna was an interesting character and how she dealt with the world was intriguing. Then came Lize and the overall quality dropped. Luna was a shell of her former self, Claude became even more annoying and all the intrigue was gone. Lize is a boring character and he was suddenly the new MC. The way the other characters interact with him is the worst part. Their actions make no sense given the nature of his problem. Dropped it at ep 8.
- The Holy Grail Of Eris: an interesting twist on the villainess genre, where the supposed villainess (who’s a ghost) works together with a supposedly “sincere” character. It was interesting at first, but the “sincere” character became an annoyance and was nothing more than a proxy that just made everything slower than necessary. Kind of like a middle manager. I put sincere im quotation marks, because they seemed to have confused extreme naïvity and letting people walk all over you with sincerity, yet they kept saying how sincere she was. It was very annoying. Not sure if that’s on the translation or if they just don’t know what sincerity means. They also kept framing her for crimes in such non-sensical ways that I couldn’t take it seriously. Dropped it after 7 eps. Shame, because I did like the villainess character.
- The Villainess Is Adored by the Prince of the Neighbor Kingdom: dropped after 2 eps. Nothing about it is a villainess anime. They say MC was a villainess, but what’s shown is the opposite. It doesn’t earn any villainess cred, not even through widespread manipulations, past misdeeds or misunderstandings by others. It’s just used as a jumping off point, with all the clichés, to get to what is really just a pretty shallow otome romance.
- Wash It All Away: couldn’t get into it unfortunately. Dropped after 3 eps.
- Kaya-chan Isn’t Scary: I quite like the manga and I don’t like this adaptation (or at least the first 3 eps). The direction is really whack, almost treating what’s happening as if it’s a shounen supernatural action anime. It’s too dramatic and doesn’t fit imo. Dropped after 3 eps.

I’ve been getting a bit annoyed about The Fragrant Flower Blooms With Dignity. Maybe I’ve become too cynical, but it’s all too… idyllic. Like, it’s great that characters can talk stuff out, but all conflict just ends up solved quite easily with no real pushback. All characters are unbelievably mature, understanding and insightful. They’re nearly flawless angels. Sometimes it feels like they’re all the same character with only superficial differences. For the teachers, that’d be one thing, but we’re also talking about high schoolers here.
This is most apparent with the latest arc. It touches upon a cornerstone of the setting of this manga and the main source of conflict in it. It finally addresses it and it’s… resolved so easily.

I’m becoming more and more confused about what the intended plan is for the post confession plot of The Guy She Was Interested in Wasn’t a Guy at All.
Yeah after the break it seemed like they found a plotline to follow, but now I’m no longer sure

But nobody is talking about the environments and textures. I think they look incredible.
I have to disagree. In many examples, the lighting completely changes and colours are exaggerated. This completely changes the atmosphere of a given area.

Leaving aside the question of artistic intent, does this not lead to every player having a different experience? Or maybe even every session? DLSS 5 seems to fill in a looot of details and even changing things. How are they making sure it’s the same for every player?

It’s not the length itself that was the problem for me (I love stories that get to the point), but more that some things seemed unfinished

Huh? The game studios pay the licenses, the artists etc. Why on earth would you then hold the store accountable? This is double dipping. That’s like charging a CD store for selling your CDs.
This shit is why the music industry is despised.

I’m very impressed that I didn’t figure out Loulan’s secret - they did a good job with that reveal.
I loved how they did that. The longer it went on, the more I started to suspect it and then came the reveal. Brilliant use of foreshadowing. It’s not for nothing Shisui was had more votes for character of the year compared to Maomao.

I dropped Champignon Witch. It started out really interesting, but once the actual plot started going, I couldn’t bring myself to care.
I did pick up a new one from this season: The Invisible Man And His Soon-to-Be Wife. 4 eps in and I’ve been grinning ear to ear. What a lovely and adorable anime

I read Sensei’s Pious Lie over the weekend.
It’s… alright. It definitely gripped me with its heavy subject material, but in the end I don’t think it knew what to say, but some of what it did seem to say seemed almost harmful.
spoiler (and trigger warning for SA mention)
I can definitely get behind the victims’ behaviour as some form of trauma response, but I don’t understand the rapist’s fiancee. She found her best friend beaten to a pulp by him and knows what more he did, to other women as well, but she decides that she still wants to be with him and loves him? I do like that this manga didn’t place the blame on the victims for not reporting him, but I don’t know what to feel about him reporting himself. Kind of feels like saying “Just wait it out”.
So many plot threads were also started and subsequently ignored or left unfinished making the ending even more unsatisfying.
