- Comment on Motorola GrapheneOS devices will be bootloader unlockable/relockable 1 week ago:
The apps that enable tap-for-payment ask your bank for permission and some security details to activate using cards for NFC.
In North America, banks won’t give that permission/security info to any android app but google pay, and only if the play store verification thing says the OS is fully secure - and google pretends grapheneos doesn’t hit those security metrics.
So yes, NFC is how tap-for-payment works, but unless NA banks implement it themselves, or trust a 3rd party that isn’t google to implement it, grapheneos phones are blocked from using the tap-for-payment functionality.

I can’t imagine grapheneos shipping on a phone without NFC.
…I wish I had the money to play with homeassistant for random things.
- Comment on Motorola GrapheneOS devices will be bootloader unlockable/relockable 1 week ago:
Its an issue that, currently, banks have to resolve by either developing (see certain EU banks that have done so) or supporting an NFC card management app that doesn’t require the highest level of the google play security thing to function.
I doubt EU legislation can fix this, and I doubt Canadian banks will care enough to do anything to support anything beyond apple pay and google pay.
- Comment on Motorola GrapheneOS devices will be bootloader unlockable/relockable 1 week ago:
Because its grapheneos you will likely have NFC, but whether you have tap-for-payment options will be a crapshoot, especially in North America, unless having an official vendor changes things with grapheneos’s play store integrity issue (which is doubtful).

They have every available variant of every game, so there are anywhere between 2-10 copies of the same game for each console it was released on.
- Comment on What YouTube downloader are the kids using these days? 4 weeks ago:
By default it auto downloads everything, but you can set rules and filters to avoid videos you don’t want.
You also have to explicitly download shorts, as they won’t download by default.

I have been using a docker container - ytdl-sub, which uses yt-dlp to download YouTube videos with metadata for jellyfin

On windows 11, the task manager freezes as often as the programs do - and is absolutely useless when a program is frozen, it won’t even try to open until the issue is resolved most of the time.
- Comment on Microwave does not make room a flat, judge rules 2 months ago:
That burner is significantly nicer than what I looked at in Vancouver a few years back.
One time, we looked at a “2 bedroom” suite that was literally a tall, steep staircase to a door.
The door led to a small (twice the width of the staircase) space that had a counter with a portable 2 burner and 2 cabinets, and 3 other doors in the space - 1 “bedroom” the size of a queen bed (no closet, not legally a bedroom), 1 “living room” that was slightly larger, and a bathroom with the only sink, a toilet, and a 1 person shower.
We did not follow up with that listing.

To make the tea thing even better, in English when referring to Chinese black teas, they are called red tea instead… Because that’s the color of the liquid.
That being said, if its label says red tea, its probably way higher quality than the tea bags you have at home.

Upvoted for the striked out portionThat is fair, though my comment was more because everyone I have talked to IRL that knows about mastodon thinks its a dead platform, because people they know that use bluesky have told them as much.

Its shocking how many people want to push the “mastodon is a dead platform, bluesky is the future”.

The problem isn’t that nobody is able to be punished, its that the punishment isn’t anywhere near severe enough to incentivize fixing the issues that caused grandma to get hit.
When negligence is a small fine and a finger wag of “make sure this doesn’t happen again”, they aren’t going to do more than lip service claiming they will fix the issue, maybe fire someone at the bottom of the ladder to prove their sincerity.

I threw a thinkcenter in my laundry room and did the bare minimum to securely SSH into it (fail2ban, nonstandard port, root login disabled, can't login with password, etc), to be used as a testing platform for building my workplace a new website.
Just gotta relearn HTML/CSS and figure out what platform to use.
Also set up traefik/Authelia/maybe Anubis for the new domain and block any access outside of my home or workplace.

Really wish we could just ditch windows altogether every time I find another computer that is using a local login instead of an AD login because they couldn’t be bothered to set shit up properly
