I reckon 100% over 10. Whatever it is, rich people’s kids who have no idea what the world is like for 99.9% of people have no business making decisions that affect the lives of the working class.

The 2 laptops I ordered were on their way being delivered. It’s now Sunday and the last update on the tracking info was from last Tuesday in Lismore, right before all this flooding.

I’d been saving to buy my kids new laptops for their upcoming birthdays and picked some up at a great sale price last weekend. Last update they were in Lismore on Tuesday afternoon…
- Comment on The term carrot and stick doesn't sit well with me. If you hit a donkey with a stick then it's likely it won't trust you enough to accept a carrot later. 1 week ago:
It’s pretty intuitive from the saying. It’s the carrot OR the stick, not the carrot ON the stick. The carrot is the reward for doing the thing, the stick is the punishment for not doing it. Just google it.

- Comment on Uber to introduce fixed-route shuttles in major US cities designed for commuters | TechCrunch 3 weeks ago:
I don’t know what it’s like in the states, but here in Australia taxis just can’t compete because of the massive licensing fees they have to pay to cover taxi zones and such. I’m not pro or anti taxi or uber, but there are loads of stories here of people who have paid well into 6 figures for taxi licenses right before uber came along and blew them out of the water. I do feel bad for them.

- Comment on Are we all suffering from "future shock" in 2025? 5 weeks ago:
Nobody’s suggesting it wasn’t. But a lot of us have lived our whole lives with the idea that racism was generally frowned upon by most and that it was naturally dying out. I don’t think many of us could have predicted how readily it would come roaring back, along with god damn nazis, FFS.

3 times as fast as 100? I don’t know what you’re expecting here. It’s 83.3 metres per second, if that helps. Your friend must have a nice car, there’s not many that can go that fast, and even fewer that can do it and still handle predictably.

- Comment on Why wooden bridges still have a place despite upkeep challenges 2 months ago:
IPWEA (Institute of Public Works Engineering Australia) Bridge Guide. I’m a bridge engineer. That “proper care and maintenance” line is doing a lot of heavy lifting. Sure, you can make timber last that long, but it’s maintenance-intensive.
- Comment on Why wooden bridges still have a place despite upkeep challenges 2 months ago:
Trouble is, wood has a much shorter design life and needs a lot more maintenance than concrete. Concrete bridges have a design life of 100 years, while timber will likely need significant refurbishment within 20-40, not to mention constant inspections every year with testboring at 2 year intervals (per AustRoads) and they’re often more expensive to build nowadays with the price of timber.
So yeah, they can look cool, but there are far better things to spend our money on.
- Comment on Liberals Plan To Blow Current Educator-to-Child Ratios To 1:50 2 months ago:
Or, another idea - we stop subsidising private schools and only give public money to public schools? I don’t think the private school down the road really needs a fifth auditorium while the kids at the public school are sitting in the library for science class because there’s literally nobody to teach it. But I guess we don’t want the poors getting educated, can’t have my landlords little princes and princesses competing with the peasant class for jobs.
I swear if anyone tells me they’re voting LNP I’m going to have a really hard time not just punching them in the face.

Sounds like a 13 year old edge lord with a lot to learn about the world. Pretty normal and hopefully he will grow out of it in the next 5 years or so.
Don’t mean to sound insulting, but sounds like you have a lot to learn to if you’re hung up on someone like this.
We all think stupid things at that age. Getting out into the real world cures a lot of people. Some are sufficiently privileged that they never get out into the real world - those ones become CEOs and senators, some are incurable - they become some version of maga.
Just try to remember that everyone has their own history, hangups, and demons. We’ve all got our own battles to fight, and most people just want to live their lives and be left alone.

There have always been Nazis in America, even during WW2. Listen to Rachel Maddow’s podcast “ultra” to hear about how close they came to a takeover of the US way back then. They never went away, they just went low profile for a while.
