I am unfortunately not. It was more meant as a way to say that for instance criminals (yes, even the worst ones) have value. That they deserve to live and have a decent life, no matter what.
That immigrants and asylum seekers should be treated with respect and given the help they need.
But also that animals have value. The way a lot of animals are treated is in no way acceptable.
I have tried being a vegetarian in the past, but have failed every time.
Sorry to disappoint. I wish I was better.

I believe all life have value, no matter what. I believe in justice and equality. I believe in the rule if law. I believe in democracy. I believe in the freedom of speech. I believe in religious freedom. I believe no one should go hungry. I believe no one should freeze. I believe no one should die from preventable diseases. I believe everyone has a right to education. I believe everyone has a right to healthcare. I believe everyone has a right to participate in society and the internet. I believe everyone should contribute if they can, because that is fair. I believe people should be able to retire. I believe most people are good, and want to do good. I believe in cooperation, and working towards a common goal. I believe that all people should have a minimum set of rights, that are non-negotiable. I trust my neighbours, my family and strangers.
Based on these values I could be placed anywhere from center-right to far-left in Europe.
In the US I am a filthy commie

The issue with this is signal-to-noise ratio. If everything is equally valuable speech, then it becomes a bad platform for discussion.
The solution is for the individuals that want to share their right wing views to do so from an instance that are not consided problematic. I live in Norway, we are considered one of the most democratic countries in the world, and we do not allow hate speech.
A lot of the speech from right wing Americans would easily be considered unlawful here. With good reason.
There is nothing stopping someone with right wing views from registering and sharing their opinions on most Lemmy instances. Except if they want to act as bigots. They are free to talk about pretty much any traditional right wing topic. They can talk about immigration, how the money will trickle down anytime now, and most topics.
Right wing people are welcome at Lemmy. They are just not allowed to spread hate and be explicit bigots. The ones who leave or don’t join are not censored, they are just whiny and complain when people are sick of their shit.

Yep, I have the 2.4ghz dongle ones with hall effect sensors and charging stand. Its just better and cheaper. The dongle is so that I don’t have to sync, I kinda like the whole plug in and it just works.

I subscribe to a lot of full time “content creators” that are ad supported and supported via donations.
I curate my feed meticulously to avoid slop, and I get a lot of value, learning and entertainment from those I follow.
I believe they deserve to be paid for the tremendous amount of work they put in.
Some sort of ability to generate a livable wage from creating high quality content seems reasonable, no?

There is one thing that is vital that is missing from peertube. Effective monetization.
By watching on peertube I am a drain on resources. A net negative. I’d happily pay to offset those costs and more, but I want it to be shared amongst multiple creators and hosters.
I don’t want to just support one, I want to support most of the network for the hosting and bandwidth, and a certain amount divided amongst the creators I watch.
If PeerTube introduces some sort of payment / monetization solution, it might get more creators as well. Without it I can’t see it growing fast enough to compete with YouTube in the near future.
Well… Sooner or later the costs of Full HD compressed video will be negligible for hosting and bandwidth, so that might be when YouTube gets a real challenge. So I guess we’ll see

I often refer to my wife as my girlfriend. It’s cozy and it’s kinda like a very vanilla form of roleplay. “Remember when we were younger, and just met”-kinda thing.

We need some sort of “immune system” to handle these extremes, deplatforming is kinda like moving the disease to another part of the body where there is no “immune system”. Defederating might create the same effect.
I don’t know how to handle it, but we might need more “normal” average people participating in a compassionate understanding way, with those that have lost their way. Because right now there are plenty of Russian bots that encourage the wildest conspiracies and world views, but also plenty of people with idle time on their hands encouraging it also.
We will meet this challenge more and more as the fediverse grows. At this moment it’s not worth the investment to spread misinformation probably.

Unfortunately, while Element is great, it does not support push to talk or a minimum dB to transmit sound. Which makes it a dealbreaker for gaming with friends, unfortunately.
- Comment on How to protect against someone forcefully unlocking my phone and password manager with biometrics? 2 weeks ago:
This also seems nice. I’ll probably test this one as well. I like the lock after x amount of time feature. The pictures have max 15 minutes, so that might be too little, but maybe it’ll work
- Comment on How to protect against someone forcefully unlocking my phone and password manager with biometrics? 2 weeks ago:
Great app, just installed it. The default amount of movement is perfect. Now it’s really easy to prevent being physically forced to unlock, and theft

Thats kinda interesting. If I use an unusual finger, and there is a limited amount of tries. I still get somewhat the convenience of biometrics, but can still massively increase the odds of too many attempts.
- Comment on How to protect against someone forcefully unlocking my phone and password manager with biometrics? 2 weeks ago:
Of course I can do this, but that is a major inconvenience when I unlock my phone hundreds of times per day.

Yup, it’s overblown. Just wanted to give an explanation, you never know what level of awareness other strangers have online. Wish you the best, and see you around!

It is not a problem in many contexts. For instance complementing people in social non-work gatherings. “Wow, you look great in that suit”, or “You are even prettier than I remember”. Or when talking about someones ability to attract attention.
However in the context of an important message from a person, it derails the conversation and kinda just objectifies a person. As if it is more important than what they are saying or contributing.
It basically boils down to this: Do you want to be remembered for being good looking or your contributions to this world? How does it feel to be unsure if you got the job, because of looks? Or if people are listening because of your looks?
I am glad you asked, and I already saw someone gave a great explanation, but wanted to pitch in as well 😊

Just came across d-shoot.net/kagi.html . Seems like there are more good reasons to avoid it besides it also using Yandex as an index.
- Comment on Kagi search engine now has a Fediverse search option. 4 weeks ago:
Yes, but not fully. They have their own index as well. They have also recently started a partnership with Ecosia to focus more on that effort.
- Comment on Kagi search engine now has a Fediverse search option. 4 weeks ago:
I totally agree that it is a miniscule amount. I try to prioritize more effective actions for other causes I care about, but personally am uncomfortable with any compromises with Russia at the moment. Luckily it’s basically close to zero products and services that are Russian, so it’s easy to avoid. So everytime I come across something Russian, I just avoid it. Kagi is one of the really rare times.
There’s also non-economic reasons to avoid a Russian index considering their reputation with misinformation campaigns. Even a slight nudge in the direction of Russian positive propaganda is damaging. But this was not my initial argument.
There is also the information gathering aspect, knowing what people search for (even if anonymous) is valuable.

I see your point, but I think there is a meaningful difference.
Russia started a war with a peaceful nation. It is in no way, shape or form a provoked war.
There are a couple of ways you can react to hurt the agressor. With the goal of making them stop hurting the innocent. Military action is one, economic is another.
Most European countries have decided to hurt them economically. As a European I agree with this, and fully support it. I try my best not to support the Russian economy. If Russia as a country changes in the future, my view will probably change as well. This is a war that Putin started.
That said, I believe the support from the US to Israel was wrong. The US has been supporting genocide. One could argue that supporting the US economy supports these sorts of actions as well. However, the scale is important and how much involvement is important.
If you had mentioned an Israeli company, I would agree 100%. The difference is that the US have not been spending 1/4 to 1/3 of their entire fiscal budget fighting a peaceful democratic nation as the agressor.
Anyways, at this point I am kinda mad at the US for being a unreliable partner and going to trade war with Europe and bailing in their responsibilities when it comes to the war in Ukraine and creating uncertajnty within NATO, threatening nations etc, anyways. So not spending a lot of money on US goods and services at the moment either no.

I have been sick a lot lately, so have had a lot of time on my hands. I don’t have a search for Kagi or something. I wanted to use Kagi though, so I was disappointed when I realized that they want to continue this practice.
What are you implying with it being suspicious? In what way?
**If Kagi pays a Russian company for a service, that company pays taxes to the Russian government.
Russia spends 32% of its budget on the Russian military. So for every dollar they get in taxes, one third is spent on the Russian military.
With a corporate tax rate of 20% that means 6.4% of Yandex profits go to the military. Since Kagi is mainly a paid service, I don’t want my money to go to the Russian military, and I guess a lot of other people don’t want this either**.
reuters.com/…/russia-hikes-national-defence-spend…
The Russian people are not to blame, and I am sure a lot of great people work at Yandex and at different companies in Russia. That said, Russia chose to attack a peaceful democratic country, they are currently sanctioned by a lot of western countries in hopes that it will pressure their economy enough to force them to stop the war.
There isn’t much we can do to stop the conflict besides hurting them economically and supporting Ukraine. If we continue to use Russian products and services then that does not work. Unfortunately this affects everyone in Russia.

I have no idea, but they amongst other indexes use the index from the Russian company Yandex
- Comment on Kagi search engine now has a Fediverse search option. 4 weeks ago:
Obligatory mention that Kagi also use the Russian search index Yandex. This aids the Russian economy and the Russian war effort.

And another point, as a man a lot younger than say Salma Hayek. I’d happily be her young handsome piece of action. I would also get to be with an extremely attractive woman.
The same goes for these women and Leonardo Di Caprio. He is objectively an attractive man. It’s also bragging rights. I was in a relarionship with x-celeb. Of course many women dream of being with him, and of course a lot of them are gorgeous.
I think they are both having a great time, and see no reason to judge.
I fully agree let’s care about the things that actually matter and actually hurt people.

I’d call this a win and love. Being open to being wrong is a great quality.
I see some people here not recognizing that this is a great development, or enough or whatever. These things take time for society to adjust to. Going from being skeptical / negative to a full blown ally is unreasonable to expect from someone in a short timeframe.
Being open to change and different opinions is something we should always support. That path might be rocky and hard, sometimes almost impossible.
For the sake of diplomacy and making him even more supportive seriously consider getting that “second opinion”, even though it might feel valueless for you. He just wants to make sure that you don’t make a huge irreversible mistake.
Makeup, dressing in clothes and taking some hormones or whatever is one thing, irreversible surgery is another thing. So I kinda get where he is coming from, but you probably know what’s best for you.
Anyways, good luck, and I wish you the best going forward, and am happy this is going in the right direction for you 🌈❤️
