- Comment on Constellation Energy plans to invest $1.6B to revive the Three Mile Island nuclear power plant in Pennsylvania and sell all the output to Microsoft for AI energy demands. 1 month ago:
I mean, comparing that to coal isn’t a very impressive feat. Nuclear power is very expensive, fission material is limited and sourced from dodgy countries, storage is difficult etc. The emissions are the only good thing about it. There are good alternatives to that. I guess using the existing ones until they need to be decommissioned is still a good idea though.

I suppose its easy to find tech savvy gen-z people on Lemmy ;)
Obviously what I was referring to is anecdotal and stems from my social bubble. But there is something to it, that growing up with dumbed down devices makes you less prone to dive deep into the details of tech. If I were born 2 decades later, I don’t think I would have gathered as much tech know-how as I did. I essentially had to go through all of it (started in the 286 era with PC-DOS, broke my dad’s PC countless times trying to make shareware games work, dabbled around on bulletin boards, grew up with the early stages of internet and saw how it turned to shit, etc.). If I didn’t have that, I might just have ended up knowing nothing more than smartphones.
- Comment on Despite tech-savvy reputation, Gen Z falls behind in keyboard typing skills 2 months ago:
People who know nothing more than how to operate a smartphone are not tech savvy. They can’t even do that properly. Never seen anyone from that generation use an ad blocker or revanced or anything else that combats enshittification.

And I’d say the kid who learned to start a game on daddy’s PC is miles ahead of the kid who clicked on an icon in the play store.
- Comment on EE warns parents against giving children under 11 a smartphone 2 months ago:
Smartphones won’t help you learn how computers work. They are dumbed down devices, designed to keep you on social media while maximizing exposure to ads. These things are way worse than TVs.

Is that his daughter? Would have been good information. I hardly follow anything regarding the pos that Elon is.
- Comment on What have you played this week? 3 months ago:
I got very high with a couple of friends and we played the party mode of flatout ultimate edition.
When alone with my daughter, we tend to play Goat Simulator 3. When completely alone I play some Bro Force or Binding of Isaac.

Yeah, no shit? These controls are shit in any car, including yours.
- Comment on Capacitive controls could be the cause of a spate of VW ID.4 crashes 3 months ago:
Lol, this sort of shit also comes in ICE vehicles. The only reason this is more predominant in EVs is because some braindead MBAs think EVs need to somehow be more “futuristic” and tactile buttons are too old-school for them. How is it difficult to fathom that in certain situations this can lead to accidents?

Injecting your emotions into this whole ordeal doesn’t make it any truer. I’m in no way defending Israel by the way. I think Netanjahu is a fucking Nazi prick. But comparing the two headlines randomly like this is a form of propaganda. You’re doing this to invoke anger in people. I came to Lemmy to be free of this shit.
Except for treaties supporting the 2 factions, Russia invading Ukraine is a crystal clear situation. There’s no complexity at all. Putin decided to attack Ukraine once more, after annexing Crimea. Putin is a lying, power hungry sack of shit. Much like Netanjahu. But the whole Israel Palestine thing has a way longer history, with way more parties that were actively involved.
I’m any case, at least we agree that both wars are shit and I do appreciate that.
- Comment on Headlines 4 months ago:
No, it was the official statement back then before investigations were made. This happened a couple of days after the Hamas kidnapped and killed a shit ton of Israelis. There still was some miniscule amount of credibility in this official statement, which turned out to be bullshit after a while.
And yes, I absolutely understand the invasion of Russia. That is not a complicated thing. I do not fully understand the Israel - Palestine conflict and neither do you. There’s also way more parties involved than Israel and Palestine.
What you’re doing is posting disgusting populist propaganda, downplaying the horrors of one conflict to shift attention to another. Just stop. Both conflicts are fucking disgusting.
- Comment on Headlines 4 months ago:
You’re kinda downplaying the word genocide with your comment. Not a very efficient genocide if it’s been going on for 75 years.
This is not an opinion of mine, it’s what I read from your comment.
- Comment on Headlines 4 months ago:
Just stop. This conflict has been going on for ages and is so complex, people have to actually study this shit to even remotely understand it.
Russia just fucked Ukraine.
All of this aside, the comparison of the two headlines is just dumb. The left side was from 2023, right after it happened. This was the official statement back then. What should they have written instead? They even used quotation marks. Fucking hell.

It’s not true. We write nouns with a capital letter, not every word. It’s kind of important because sometimes verbs can be expressed as nouns. It’d be confusing to read. It’s generally nicer to read with capitalized (?) nouns.

I can’t either. My wife is a teacher and we have a child. We can’t vacation in the off-seasons. We both have great jobs. So if we get to fly, it’s something special. And I don’t want that taken away to be honest. Using airplanes like taxis however (e.g. Ryan Air)? That’s just not a good thing to do to the environment.

I gather from your comments that you live in Spain, right? You guys suffer from all the 20€ flights going there from other European countries. At those prices you’ll mostly encounter human trash (I know this because I’m from Germany and the the majority of Germans visiting Spain are morons), so I feel with you. These cheap flights need to stop. I’d like to see the kerosene taxed fully for European flights. Have the prices be something to think about.

I still believe there are other priorities over one trip every couple of years. Flight is one of the greatest achievements of humanity and I firmly believe it is important to visit other cultures.

For you it might be clear. For the overwhelming majority of people, this is news. People don’t know shit about tech. Most would assume the AI thingy does its thing on the local computer.

Back in the 90s when I lived in Amsterdam, I also saw svp (which is actually French) used often instead of aub. I never understood why though.
Also, ff wachten for example. ff is short for effe, or rather “even”. Just wanted to throw that one into the mix.
