I love that this originated from Rutgers.
This was a deliberate choice by Cox and Zucker, who, as first-year graduate students at Princeton University in 1970, conceived of the idea of coauthoring a paper for the express purpose of enabling this joke. They followed through on it five years later, as members of the faculty at Rutgers University

Feel like a lot of the “myths” are also just because you’re not going to teach a 16-year-old about quantum mechanics to explain why table salt exists

I mean… I wish I could blame the guy for not going to the doctor (Americans will do anything but try going to the doctor), but we’d also rather put people on the moon than give free at the point of care Healthcare to people…

Polio is good for you because it prevents autism.

After reading the wiki, this is sort of macabre:
On the day of the accident, Slotin’s screwdriver slipped outward a fraction of an inch while he was lowering the top reflector, allowing the reflector to fall into place around the core. Slotin received a lethal dose of 1,000 rad (10 Gy) neutron and 114 rad (1.14 Gy) gamma radiation in less than a second, while the position of Slotin’s body over the apparatus shielded the others from much of the neutron radiation. Slotin died nine days later from acute radiation poisoning.

Modern teflon, sure.
But there’s a reason its no longer made with PFOA.
Studies have looked at cancer rates in people living near or working in PFOA-related chemical plants. Some of these studies have suggested an increased risk of testicular cancer and kidney cancer with increased PFOA exposure. Studies have also suggested a possible link to thyroid cancer, but the increases in risk have been small and could have been due to chance. - Source
