Boss calls me (the sole on-site IT person) on a sickday and tells me something important broke and I need to come and fix it (45 minute bus ride one-way). I know exactly what broke and I tell her if she goes into my office and turn my computer on then I can remote in and fix it in literally 5 seconds. She nearly screams at me saying that my contract doesn’t allow remote work and I don’t remember what exactly was said after this point but it was something along the lines of:
“It won’t be fixed for another 5 days then because I’m not coming in today (Thursday) and I don’t work Fridays or Mondays”
“Ok bye”
“bye”
Guess it wasn’t important

- Comment on Network Switch 1 month ago:
Your ISP doesn’t give a fuck, it’s not legal trouble. It’s just overzealous sysadmins blocking anything that seems sus. I am permanently banned from most SoMe, for example, for having abnormal network activity but none of it is illegal.
- Comment on Network Switch 1 month ago:
You do face issues running a regular middle/guard relay. My IP is tainted from overzealous sysadmins looking up Tor related IPs and seeing mine because middle relays are public knowledge. I am banned from a lot of places for simply being a middle relay.

PPA works for ad networks and not users. I don’t care about your ‘moderate take’ about a technology invented by the actual opposition who would strip-mine your corpse for minerals if they were given the opportunity just because it’s not as evil as it could be. It is still evil technology that works against you.

- Comment on In your opinion what's the best way to do and restore full backups of a Linux server? 2 months ago:
All of my services run on LXC containers. Some files and configs are backed up to NAS and offsite. The containers are snapshotted in their entirety before I do any work on them. A snapshot takes 5 seconds to make and causes no downtime. If I regret a change or mess it up, I can restore the snapshot in under a minute at the cost of some seconds of downtime.
My only non-container machines are my desktop (doesn’t count), my NAS and the Hypervisor. The Hypervisor is very clean and wouldn’t be much fuss to reinstall and the NAS is literally just Debian with NFS. All of these have a regular rsync which runs to backup the important files.

By having it be a container

Yeah man I have all of the context, it’s just a very The Onion thing to have happen. I really can’t tell if it’s real or a joke

Subsonic is also a protocol (and opensubsonic) which supports many other clients, if you want. Personally my music collection is just hosted on gonic, a server-only subsonic implementation and I stream it to whatever clients I want.

- Comment on How much maintenance do you find your self-hosting involves? 6 months ago:
If my ISP didn’t constantly break my network from their side, I’d have effectively no downtime and nearly zero maintenance. I don’t live on the bleeding edge and I don’t do anything particularly experimental and most of my containers are as minimal as possible
I built my own x86 router with OpnSense Proxmox hypervisor Cheapo WiFi AP Thinkcentre NAS (just 1 drive, debian with Samba) Containers: Tor relay, gonic, corrade, owot, apache, backups, dns, owncast
All of this just works if I leave it alone

… it will not be possible to offer refunds for Ultimate Edition buyers.
we will compensate Ultimate Edition holders by adding 3 Creator Packs and 3 Radio Stations which, together, sum up to a value of USD 39.99.

The torx we got in the toolset I use are probably just kinda shitty, honestly
- Comment on Whoops 6 months ago:
I’m actually conflicted; I have a lot more trouble with torx at work than I do alan, but phillips are universally a problem. The torx keys don’t stick in the hole and can’t be tilted at odd angles where as alan keys with a ball head can, and do stick in the hole to some degree which lets me free-spin it. I’ve ruined a lot more torx from over-torgue than I have alan keys. I would take torx over alan keys if it meant I never had to see a phillips again, though
