Idea: The ads could be marked as such by the protocol or the instance would risk detestation. Then, every other instance could choose if they show ads or not.

The authentication could be another service, split from Mastodon, Lemmy, Pixelfed, … that only gave that service. The instance asks the auth server about “user@instance: password” and the server just says “OK/fail”. That or sending the user to the auth server to get a session cookie.
- Comment on This is a simple and satisfying way to fight Trump and Musk | It's time to delete X 1 day ago:
Except everything is related to politics. The price of the bread is politics. The roads made, politics too. Having to pay the doctor or not, politics.
Politics is not “what the politicians do”. It’s “affairs of the cities”, from Ancient Greek πολιτικά (politiká). And everything that affects more than one person is an “affair of the cities”.

- Comment on This researcher wants to replace your brain, little by little. The US government just hired a researcher who thinks we can beat aging with fresh cloned bodies and brain updates. 1 month ago:
This is the correct way IMO. “Uploading” your mind to a computer is making a clone/copy, but the original dies the same.
- Comment on The 42 year old new hire at your job confesses to you that he has had 48 different jobs in his life. What is your opinion on that? 1 month ago:
What’s wrong with that? If you only find 3 months jobs you end up that way. And if you sprinkle some 1 week jobs the count rises very fast.

But if you look at messages it has raised, so less accounts but more active. And I don’t know the rest but I’m not in a hurry to see Lemmy become as big as Reddit. I can wait a couple of years to grow at a faster rate.

But if you connect your phone to the android box then the TV could use the phone to send the screenshots.
TV->android box->phone->internet.

Maybe it has something to do with the volume. If plants are at, let’s say, 40dB and you blast the animals with a 100 dB sound…
- Comment on The Google antitrust ruling could be an existential threat to the future of Firefox | Financials show 86% of Mozilla's revenue came from the agreement keeping Google as Firefox's default search engine 3 months ago:
I’m thinking of governments using it and helping. They could have their computers running without Google sticking its nose.

- Comment on Now we know how much it costs to make a $2,800 Dior bag 4 months ago:
But a $5 hotdog is very expensive while a $2 one is just “a normal hotdog in an expensive place”. It’s the jump from the “normal” price. 2x is expensive. 10x is “exclusive”.
- Comment on Now we know how much it costs to make a $2,800 Dior bag 4 months ago:
But I think it has too go way up. If it goes up but not enough then it’s an expensive thing, not a valuable one.

I’d suggest taking a fly overseas the day after the elections, booked prior to it. If Trump losses, you can use it to celebrate it. If he wins… well, you can ask for asylum on arrival.

Why move the batteries instead of “moving” the electrons? You generate the electricity anywhere you want and use Therese nice cables that happen to be everywhere.

- Comment on If everyone had access to healthcare the net benefit of treating the mental illness and other disabilities holding them back would easily cover the cost of the healthcare itself. 6 months ago:
Not having preventive health care if like having a car, hear it make too many strange noises and not fixing it until it breaks and you end up on the side of the road upside down. You “didn’t spend money” in minor fixings but you end up paying a lot more.
