That definitely sounds like an intensive project
I have some simple buttons and knobs, drawer handles, drawer slides, dryer pest guards that no longer seem to be made, cabinet shelf supports for weird old peg sizes/shapes, plugs for holes to block sharp edges, etc
Your example is going to be really tough in part because the tape itself is fragile. I would absolutely not print things that will touch the magnetic tape itself if you care about the tape.
But the buttons, and possibly even the gears can likely be functionally printed as long as the features arent too small. That’s the biggest issue your example has most likely: minimum feature size

It really comes down to the user, as with any tech.
I use mine to exclusively print functional parts to keep old things around the house functioning. But I also took mechanical drafting for 3 semesters and feel both comfort and enjoyment from drafting my own models. That’s not the case for everyone.
My functional prints are almost all still in operation, some for years. Many of the parts literally do not have commercial replacements, or solve issues that exist in the commercial versions.
I understand that I am an outlier though

Why not throw graphene or another alternative on it (if supported) instead of turning it into e-waste?

I don’t disagree, but this is a wildfire of interest right now and there’s a lot of people not recognizing this facet of how gpts operate. You have to really vocally recognize it’s weakness so it can be mitigated (hopefully).

No, they give you an answer that should sound correctly So they can score a positive interaction.
Why do you think so many GPT answers seem plausible but don’t work? Because it has very very little actual logic

I use planka. It’s compatible with my internal SSO and it’s exactly what I was after.

That’s definitely fair. I’ll admit its not the lightest on ram but it hasn’t gone crazy on me yet. With that said, I’m running if on a home lab k3s, and haven’t remotely flirted with running out of ram
I’m also using the hell out of it all the time, so I don’t mind it using what needs right now.

I’m not sure where security comes in for this, but that sounds like a reasonable build to me.

LinkWarden also saves various archival copies of sites (as well as it can with anti-robot measures anyways)

I love my LinkWarden instance. I haven’t found it lacking for my needs, despite over 3000 links thus far

I just made the switch this weekend. I have not had a single incompatibility yet. I have seen an oddity here and there in Helldivers 2, but nothing crazy.
Oddity 1: In normal windows play async issues sometimes happen where a player steps on a mine in the other person’s client but not their own. They continue to play because their client doesn’t mark them dead. To the other person, they appear as a person missing some number of body parts (sometimes just a floating torso). We call this torso mode.
Since switching to linux I have not seen him go torso mode a single time. He still sees me go torso mode.
Oddity 2: The artillery rounds are color coded for what each of them does. Since switching to linux they only appear silver for whatever reason. It’s a nonissue, I just read them when I walk next to them. If anyone asks my character is colorblind.
One additional note:
If you install steam with a flatpak, you’re going to have to tangle with the permissions related to a flatpak. Once you add directory permissions for an additional directory via flatseal (for example, if you want a library on each of your harddrives), you won’t have to touch it again and it’s great.
Maybe these issues are significant to you, maybe they aren’t. Ultimately, god I love my system starting up in just a few seconds. And having true control over it.
