Oh man - health care is absolutely guilty of this. Residents and nurses go through hell to gain their professional credentials.
- Comment on When people say the AI bubble will burst, what exactly does that mean? 2 days ago:
Well yeah - but technically everything is just algebra.
If it happens on a computer, it can be expressed in s expressions.

Organizations often put new employees through shared trauma to force a feeling of comraderie and submission to management so I don’t see why gangs would be any different.

It’s extra frustrating for those of us working in companies where ML is actually a useful tool that we’ve been leveraging for years.

In those other areas there are plenty of other English titles you can use. “Instructor” is always fun!

I’m uncertain, but it’s certainly quite possible these folks were trolling. My main point was that it’s not as much about what the folks in sheets intended as much as it’s about how they’re perceived. Elections are pretty important and people are pretty sensitive right now so even if these folks did it for the lulz they may have actually intimidated and suppressed some votes.
- Comment on [deleted] 3 weeks ago:
Yeah, or something like “My body my choice” there are lots of pins or patches you could draw inference (sometimes incorrectly, of course) from.
- Comment on [deleted] 3 weeks ago:
Sure but what happened in the civil rights era was that anyone who was black was assumed to be voting against the racist as fuck candidate… so if you showed up and were black you’d be run off, beaten, or lynched.
Let’s say you’re me - I’m a man with a beard who wears skirts - I show up to vote and take a wild guess who I’m voting for… it’s not the chucklefuck that wants to persecute all my trans friends. Based on appearance alone (including swag you might have pinned to your bag) you could try and make a guess about how someone may vote.
- Comment on [deleted] 3 weeks ago:
I disagree, masked people at a voting place carries an implicit threat of violence… this may be some dumb teenagers or it may be crazy sov cit folks… either way their presence absolutely could scare off people intending to vote.
People who are obscuring their identity are usually doing so to avoid notice or repercussions for their actions… I think it’s reasonable to expect people in a voting location to be clearly visible and recognizable.

So, unfortunately, the police are often not politically neutral and usually skew towards a conservative bent - this is also likely explicitly outside their jurisdiction since it involves a federal election (and America has a really dark history of law enforcement interfering with elections) so, charitably, they may have been unable to act even if they wanted to.
The correct authority in this case would be one of these folks I believe (I’m not a Georgia native):
sos.ga.gov/form/stop-voter-fraud
law.georgia.gov/…/election-fraud-complaint-hotlin…
www.eac.gov/…/register-and-vote-in-your-state?fie…
In actuality, it might be best to start by just calling these folks (phone number from the page above).

That’s almost certainly super illegal. Unless there’s a weird local exemption It’s illegal to misrepresent yourself as a government official (this usually comes up with law enforcement but it covers all “regular” public employees - i.e. not private contractors hired by the government).
Please report this and include as many photos or other physical proof you may have as I really suspect it’s an attempt at voter intimidation.
- Comment on [deleted] 3 weeks ago:
Seems like run of the mill super illegal voter intimidation - maybe aimed at discouraging black voters by invoking images of the klan?
- Comment on Is my reaction weird? 3 weeks ago:
Boners are a natural reaction that’s pretty much out of our control so getting one and hiding it isn’t a bad thing.
It’s not okay nonconsensually involve someone in your stuff so making someone aware of your boner is absolutely not okay. Ditto for taking advantage of a situation like that to grope/fondle the person.
I’d need to know more to be sure (and to know specifically information you don’t know) but it doesn’t sound like you did anything to make anyone feel uncomfortable so I think there’s nothing wrong on that count.
It does sound like you’re extremely tightly wound sexually though, so there may be some stuff you should examine internally - like why that was so exciting for you. It sounds like you may need a more healthy sexual outlet if you’re reacting this strongly.

- Comment on How do you get better at debate without necessarily doing a debate? 3 weeks ago:
Debate.
You don’t need to do this in a formal setting, I think groups like Philosophy clubs are excellent for learning how better to support an argument (and they’re usually quite positive and supportive settings).
Imo the only way to get better at debating is exercise. If you have an idea of the topic it’s always a good idea to do research to build your familiarity but rhetorical skills gain with practice.

- Comment on If Biden wanted to could he have people kill Trump since he is in office and SCOTUS said it was ok? 1 month ago:
Nah, because he’s a Democrat. SCOTUS would rule that was a violation of his presidential duties… they left that ruling incredibly vague so that they can be the authority.
- Comment on How do bigger organizations handle spam calls/large volumes of spam calls? 1 month ago:
The spam calls are few and far between… when measured relatively against the fucking sales cold calls.
Avoid publishing important people’s direct phone numbers and force calls through a full time secretary or group of secretaries - if sales people call on direct lines notify them this is a private line and that you’ll block their number for repeat offenses. Make a note of the caller, company, and number - if they already have a strike refuse to do business with them… watch in glee as you slowly build up a black list of all telecom providers.

To clarify, are you asking if there’s a specific genre to Planet of the Apes where there’s a big reveal that this is actually just earth after some society ending disaster? (And similar stuff but that’s the first that came to mind).

Rule 5- No baiting or sealioning or promoting an agenda.
Questions which, instead of being of an innocuous nature, are specifically intended (based on reports and in the opinion of our crack moderation team) to bait users into ideological wars on charged political topics will be removed and the authors warned - or banned - depending on severity.
Asking someone to explain Sealioning is Sealioning and bait - in case you’re legitimately ignorant here’s Wikipedia: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sealioning
- Comment on How come the US does not put a bounty on Putin like they did Bin Laden? 1 month ago:
The US (at least by executive order which can always be rescinded) has an official policy not to assassinate foreign leaders:
en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Executive_Order_11905
(See also EO 12036 and EO 12333 for confirming the policy)
Placing a bounty on Putin would probably violate that EO…
More importantly, the US is really fucking hoping Putin dies of old age or is voted out domestically because direct confrontations may result in Putin pushing ze button and launching ze nukes.
- Comment on Do animals feel love and emotion? 1 month ago:
Yes. We had a cat that’d sit with us when we weren’t feeling well. If you were lying in bed with a migraine he’d snuggle in and rest his chin on your forehead. He could tell when we were ill and would always settle in with us including missing mealtime.
I don’t know about smiling but cats and dogs absolutely feel emotion and affection.

Form out of band relationships with coworkers you trust to get a base going then send an email to everyone from your department from an anonymous email address to solicit feedback and organize a vote.

Unions are legal in all occupations. There may be restrictions on some form of collective action (i.e. the government can force strikers back to work) but organizing is never illegal.

Nah, there’s a fair bit of legitimacy in wanting to minimize how often you pull out your phone. If you can’t ignore notifications (i.e. devops) it’s nice to be able to check them without getting the full device out.
