Because of the implication
- Comment on Supreme Court chief justice warns of dangers of AI in judicial work, suggests it is “always a bad idea” to cite non-existent court cases 10 months ago:
Crypto didn’t go anywhere? Sure it’s not completely eradicated but it’s way less in the mainstream now and basically has the rep of being a scam.
AI is currently used in far more real world use cases than crypto ever was. Maybe it doesn’t take off into infinity but it’s definitely going to be a lot more prevalent
- Comment on Supreme Court chief justice warns of dangers of AI in judicial work, suggests it is “always a bad idea” to cite non-existent court cases 10 months ago:
I warn of dangers of authentic stupidity in judicial work
- Comment on The 'Effective Accelerationism' movement doesn't care if humans are replaced by AI as long as they're there to make money from it 10 months ago:
Effective altruism is something that sounds good in principle, and I still think is good in general though can kind of run out of control.
Sam Bankman Fried was someone who at least claim to follow this philosophy. The issue being that you can talk yourself into doing bad thing in the name or earning money that you would then donate much of.
And more generally get into doing “long term” or “big picture” good while also doing a lot of harm. But hey the ends justify the means.
Again, I think the principle of being a lot more calculated in how we do philanthropy is a huge good thing. But the EA movement has had some missteps and probably needs to be reigned in a bit.

I don’t think it’s necessarily true that if we listen to “doomers” we get sensible policy. And it’s probably more likely we get regulatory capture.
But there does exist a sensible middle ground.

You named a bunch of people and companies who are not the subject of the article
- Comment on Driverless car startup Cruise's no good, terrible year 10 months ago:
I mean, I think it’s a little different in that there’s tangible AI products that millions of people are already using?
- Comment on The 'Effective Accelerationism' movement doesn't care if humans are replaced by AI as long as they're there to make money from it 10 months ago:
I’m not a proponent of this mindset but this seems like an obvious mischaracterization
- Comment on What's the point of a reverse proxy and does cloudflare give all the benefits of one? 10 months ago:
Depends what you mean by same port. A reverse proxy would allow you to expose everything of 443 and then the proxy would route to particular app ports and hosts.
- Comment on Electric Cars Are Already Upending America | After years of promise, a massive shift is under way 10 months ago:
Transition in the same all for software these days. The difference is the expectation of always on connections and continuous delivery of updates. That’s quite a bit different than the software model used for your 1981 Ranger. Though it’s not specific to cars.

- Comment on Threads is blocking servers on the Fediverse. Here's how we unblocked ourselves. | Soapbox 10 months ago:
For sure. Part of me would want to take a sort of principled stand and not fuck with anything meta. But if I can follow people on threads from Mastadon, that would be pretty nice, and I think that integration would lend Mastadon and federation in general some legitimacy to the normies (for lack of a better word).
- Comment on Threads is blocking servers on the Fediverse. Here's how we unblocked ourselves. | Soapbox 10 months ago:
It should be left up to individual instances or user who to block. I personally think the integration is great

- Comment on One year-post acquisition, X traffic and monthly active users are in decline, report claims 1 year ago:
I mean a statistic can be “real” and also not useful. A person can also be statistically illiterate. I’m not sure these realities validate their web traffic metrics though.
- Comment on One year-post acquisition, X traffic and monthly active users are in decline, report claims 1 year ago:
That definitely depends. 100% of people that drink water die is a statistic. The question is always whether the statistics are actually good
- Comment on One year-post acquisition, X traffic and monthly active users are in decline, report claims 1 year ago:
I don’t really know. Ive always been just a lurker, not a poster, on Twitter and I honestly haven’t noticed any significant changes. Their web traffic metrics are a data point but I just don’t know if they really tell us anything substantive.

- Comment on Netflix to open branded retail stores for some reason 1 year ago:
It’s so weird how we look back on those things that were seen as inconveniences, driving to a physical store / rental time limits, as good things now.
It’ll be interesting to see if we find ways to kinda bridge those gaps.
- Comment on Netflix to open branded retail stores for some reason 1 year ago:
What if you could go and a rent physical DVDs

- Comment on Ad-free Facebook, Instagram access planned for $14 per month in Europe 1 year ago:
So basically decline to use Facebook? I’m skeptical. People will just opt in to the tracking, most people don’t care.
Even if they did and chose to go to some other platform, they’ll eventually run up against the same business model decisions.
- Comment on Escalating scandal grips airlines including American and Southwest, as nearly 100 planes find fake parts from company with fake employees that vanished overnight 1 year ago:
I don’t really agree. If I have two choices to make a long distance trip, drive or fly, it is safer to fly. If I’m going to the grocery store, there’s no option to fly, so using those type of trips in the calculation doesn’t make sense.
- Comment on I hate how everything requires you to download a shitty proprietary data harvesting app nowadays when everything can be done just fine without an app. 1 year ago:
I guess unpopular opinion but experience of a good app is significantly better than the experience of even a good mobile website. Especially if I’m frequently going back and forth between pages and whatnot.
The data harvesting is a huge issue but it’s clear that most people don’t give a shit. Though I think iOS and Android have both done a good job exposing what data apps are collecting on your and if you are conscious of it, the info is there for you.

I believe the COVID vaccine trials were the largest ever done, or close. And most of the “complications” were simply the same issues of “long COVID” but scaled down significantly
- Comment on New Vaccine Can Completely Reverse Autoimmune Diseases Like Multiple Sclerosis, Type 1 Diabetes, and Crohn’s Disease 1 year ago:
Just spiteful. And ironic if you really want to claim to care about public health
