I was surprised to find out how much the U.S. actually does spend on education, given how shitty it is. Idk where the money is going, but it’s definitely funded

Lemmy’s being difficult for me (or it could be Connect for Lemmy) so I keep having to find the post in order to reply to you! (Meaning I might have to stop replying, but if I do that’s why)
And yes, I would say a dog growling and a honey bee releasing pheromones are also examples of language! I’m sure many would disagree (and rightfully) but my general perspective on the matter is that any type of communication is language (but I can see how it can be argued that no, it’s not language which is different- they’re just so closely related in my mind that to me they’re practically synonyms)
- Comment on Is there a chart where particular cuneiform or hieroglyphics are actually matched with emojis? 10 months ago:
I agree that it has to do with definition. My definition of language might be of a wider range than yours (and linguists)
My cat, for example, might not use grammer but I can certainly communicate with her (and she with me!) In this sense she and I have a language between us that’s a mix of signs, sounds, and body language. It’s not possible for me to seperate our talks from language, even though our understanding of each other doesn’t cover specifics.
So if someone communicates with me via emoji, and I understund accurately, I would count it as language (even if it goes against classical definitions)
- Comment on Is there a chart where particular cuneiform or hieroglyphics are actually matched with emojis? 10 months ago:
Idk. I think they can all fall under language, because they’re all a form of communication. Like sign language, or body language

Yeah, my husband and I tend to trade off playing during 1-player games, and I’d essentially toss the controller at him each time there was an enemy. He got to the point of “fuck this, I’m running” (Though we haven’t played in a while due to the nausea I get from it)

I’m usually all about treating everyone as equally as possible, but I think if you’re talking about something specific to the “race” (say now, how black women’s hair has to be styled differently due to physical differences) then it’s acceptable to mention “race”
If you’re looking at some kind of demographic, it’s also all right to mention it. Idk if it’s true that conservative white dudes like gay/trans porn more than anyone else, but I think it’s ok to mention that. Especially since the consumption of gay/trans porn on it’s own isn’t necessarily a negative (unless there’s anything non-consential going on ir someone is underage). It’s more the hypocracy of it all that gets peeps riled up
(I hate the term “race” which is why I shoved it in between quotation marks)
- Comment on Why do we have an internal monologue? 10 months ago:
I’m somewhat similar, but I’m also extremely easily distracted. I can’t hold multiple things in my mind for longer than two or three steps ahead. And then anything that comes along to break me out of it and I’m just done. It’s super frustrating, especially because I have the kind of mind that bounces different perspectives around all the time. It’s like I just want to reach out and grab a thought to think it through thouroughly before I get to the next but… nope

I just need to comment how annoying this paragraph is:
“Unlike California, Texas, and Arizona — which have also been used as a testing ground for driverless cars — have passed laws holding companies who operate autonomous vehicles responsible for any driving infractions.”
Should be written: Texas and Arizona, unlike California, have passed laws holding companies who operate autonomous vehicles responsible for any driving infractions. All three states have been used as testing grounds for driverless cars."

I like the game but I can’t deal with the nausea. Idk what it is about it, (I suspect it’s the rain) but within minutes I feel sick and need to go lay down. My husband has no issues with it. We’re probably about 30% through.
I love the weirdness of the story. The voice acting is pretty good. The environment is immersive, and I’ll remember that cake scene forever. (But the boat controls suck, combat isn’t fun and doesn’t add anything to the game, and I’m not a fan of having to run to a point in order to fast travel)
Just wish I could either watch or play it without wanting to throw up

I have one and it’s exquisite. My husband had originally proposed with a dull, heart-shaped blood-diamond that cost him about 10k. I think he could tell that I didn’t like it, and told me it could be returned.
I felt bad for not liking the first, but worse about the thought of some poor lil kid digging it up in Africa. We found a synthetic diamond that is PERFECT and glitters like crazy. I’m extremely happy with my synthetic diamond ring. It’s the prettiest piece of jewelry that I’ve ever owned. Highly recommended
- Comment on How have you personally found the Lemmy community compared to its competition and other social media? 10 months ago:
I was discussing this with my husband. I think part of it is that some of the Lemmy crowd came over because they were banned on reddit for being hyper-disagreeable, rude, violent lil bastards.
I came over because I got sick of he-get-sus ads

For me the line needs to be crossed. As soon as that happens, action can be taken. But guilty-by-association isn’t enough (and that’s how I see marching)
If someone makes a legit threat (or commits a crime) against another person, then something should be done to address that (what that something is needs to be proportional and preferably reform-based)
Like what’s happening to Trump and the Jan 6th crowd. The peeps involved are being handed sentences. Evidence against the baddies need to be properly collected so that they can be brought to justice in a civilized way.
You need a visual on them for that to happen. Let them march, identify them, and keep track of their behaviour. They’re fine… until they step out of line. And if they do, you know who they are, how many, etc.
I can understand why people misunderstand me and my meaning. I look at things with empathy, a love of freedom, a deep desire for open discussions, autonomy, and belief in taking action against others only when it’s truly justifiable (such as cases of physical threat, or impending threat)

Husband and I are playing it right now. At one point in Solstheim there were Wearbears EVERYWHERE. It was hilarious. Another time we couldn’t get a quest to progress because an npc was supposed to be dead and wasn’t. So we killed her right in front of them, and immediatly got an update to the quest log. Also hilarious.
The bugs (generally) make it funnier, as long as you aren’t taking things too seriously (and mods help immensely)

I know people say they there are studies, etc, but I agree with you. My husband and I both don’t like Taco Bell. There were zero searches for it, we never talked about it, etc. So we decided to test it. We started saying Taco Bell multiple times in different sentences.
Guess what suggested options popped up when we hit “T” into google or maps? Yup. Taco Bell

“Sexual Content Policy Update DEC 15, 2023← All Posts
1920x1080_header_ts_shield_ice.jpg
Author: Dan Clancy
On Wednesday, we updated our Sexual Content Policy. Our primary goal in making these updates was to make our guidelines easier to understand and enforce.
Part of this update included changes to how we treat fictionalized nudity. For years, through UserVoice and in conversations, we heard from artists that our content policies were limiting. In making this update, we were trying to be responsive to these requests and allow the thriving artist community on Twitch to utilize the human form in their art.
First, we want to make clear that some streamers, in response to this update, created content that was in violation of our new policy. We’ve worked quickly to remove that content and issue channel enforcements.
However, there also was a great deal of new content that was allowed under the updated policy. Much of the content created has been met with community concern. These are concerns we share. Upon reflection, we have decided that we went too far with this change. Digital depictions of nudity present a unique challenge–AI can be used to create realistic images, and it can be hard to distinguish between digital art and photography.
So, effective today, we are rolling back the artistic nudity changes. Moving forward, depictions of real or fictional nudity won’t be allowed on Twitch, regardless of the medium. This restriction does not apply to Mature-rated games. You can find emote-specific standards for nudity and sexual content in the Emote Guidelines. We aren’t making other changes to the updated Sexual Content Policy.
We are in the process of pushing out updates to our Community Guidelines that reflect this change. It will take a few days for both this blog and for the new Community Guidelines to be translated.
While I wish we would have predicted this outcome, part of our job is to make adjustments that serve the community. I apologize for the confusion that this update has caused.”

I’m constantly learning new things, or delving deeper into subjects I’m already familiar with. I can’t help it. My brain won’t have it any other way (otherwise I get destructive)

You are just as entitled to your opinion as I am, and I won’t be silenced by you, or anyone else for that matter.
You can stomp your feet and whine all you want to. I wouldn’t even try to stop you even if I could. You know why?
Just because I disagree with you, doesn’t mean I wouldn’t defend your right to disagree with me. Hate me if you want to, it’s your right as a human being to feel however it is that you will feel
- Comment on Boy, 15, given official warning after saluting as neo-Nazis marched through Ballarat 11 months ago:
I hear you and I understand. I just want to try to clarify something. This is over simplified because I’m on my phone
Imagine you’re in a room with 50 people. Two are designated as the leaders. Each leader has a goal of attainting the most followers, and will claim a cash prize for each follower they acquire.
Leader A looks around and thinks, “hey only about 25% of people have blonde hair. Ah ha! They’re my target” and then proceeds to talk mad shit. Some of the people agree, and also start talking mad shit.
The other leader looks around, and thinks: “I now know I have about 25% of the people on my side, but how do I get more?” B could silence A by force (a fight breaks out), B could point out what A is doing to gain followers (A could then claim B is a liar), or A could focus on how the blonde’s are really just people like everyone else, brothers and sisters, friends and lovers. A loses, if B can help people see that differences add to the group, as well as that everyone is connected to the human family
Whatever the outcome, what I mean with this is that the true baddies are few. They speak to the insecurities of the masses, and turn people on one another. They may not be the ones organizing the march, but they are at the head of it. I’m not saying to let them have the stage 24/7. I’m saying we should focus on swaying the hearts/minds of the people marching, because oppressing them only gives the main baddies more power

And you have a right to be upset. It’s good that you’re voicing that opinion, it’s good that you’re standing up for what you believe in. The more voices there are that speak up about injustice, the better!
I wonder if this all sounds contradictory to the person you may think you were debating/arguing with, but it’s not. Having voices heard is part of what I believe in. It’s just that I don’t think silencing opposing voices (no matter what garbage they spew) is the right way to go

I’m not lecturing you, I apologize if it seemed that way. What I was trying to do is allow you to recognize that your own biases, to help explain why people jump on the fascist boat
I’m not gonna continue arguing, because it seems like you’re upset. I just hope that you can remember thenold adage: you catch more flies with honey than with vinegar
