You’re correct in a lot of languages; Excel comes to mind. Just that’s not how
int rand()
works in C.Sorry, I don’t why you’re getting snark and even being accused of using the word “integer”.
- Comment on Could plants/trees be an evil alien species that came to earth and made us dependent on them ? 9 months ago:
“Daddy, why do people have to eat?”
[long pull from cig] “Plants… They came here. Now we are enslaved to eat them. It is their way.”
- Comment on What's the best type of food to eat in an active shower? 9 months ago:
Some stores sell a little shelf for your shower crunchwraps. They have a little suction cup on them. It’s a really clever design.
- Comment on What's the best type of food to eat in an active shower? 9 months ago:
Crunchwrap supreme. Next question.
- Comment on When people talk about returning the cart after shopping, does that include putting it in a corral, or do you have to take it all the way to the front of the store to be a good person? 9 months ago:
So I’ve live a few places around the US (all east of the Missisip. So it’s not like a good survey), but the place that is worst for this has been southern Louisiana (north shore). Everywhere kinda sucks, but it’s anarchy there.

Why are you the judge of what conditions make it acceptable?

Maybe I’ve always just felt a Roblox-shape hole in my heart.

That’s easier to boycott than diapers, my friend.
- Comment on It’s Surprisingly Easy to Live Without an Amazon Prime Subscription 9 months ago:
Buying cat litter when you also need diapers and have to shop with a baby in tow? I’ll be anti-consumer next year.
- Comment on Dude almost lost his life 9 months ago:
It was just a dude answering questions he was asked. I don’t want to hang out with the guy.
I get a little worried about calling something like that “sexual assault”. It plays into the “can’t say anything anymore” crowd’s hands.
- Comment on Dude almost lost his life 9 months ago:
That wasn’t sexual assault. If you want a lesson to take away for what he actually did wrong here: he attacked the reason for rejection. It’s a natural thing to do. But that’s really the only thing wrong here.
Going in for a peck is fine. Planting one before they react wouldn’t be. But taking rejection gracefully is nearly impossible. Let’s try to be better.
- Comment on Now who is laughing? 9 months ago:
Would that make noise that would overcome the honk? That was my fear of a secondary device. (again not a gun guy.)
- Comment on I love my Gitea. Any tips and tricks? 9 months ago:
Do you honestly think they’re “completely missing the point”? Read the meme. There’s no mention of gitea. Self-hosting git is nothing to wiggle your tie over. Maybe setting up the things you are talking about are, but git?
- Comment on Now who is laughing? 9 months ago:
Amazing. Thanks. Seems like you could divert most of the air into a secondary silencer chamber. That way only a “small” amount of air interacts with the reed. I’m not a gun guy though. I’m more here for the clown noises.
- Comment on Dissing car brands is console wars for boomers 9 months ago:
The idea that the argument “it’s adam and eve, not adam and steve” is as logically valid as “he who smelt it, dealt it” really fucked with boomer’s minds. It makes me wonder how serious they were about the smelt it/dealt it rule.
- Comment on Now who is laughing? 9 months ago:
Which is exactly in line with the meme.

Please tell me there is a youtube video out there building this.
- Comment on Janeway’s “Tuvix” Decision Divides ‘Star Trek: Voyager’ Cast: “It Kind Of Hurt Her Character” 9 months ago:
I found it strange the claim started with the language “a Trolley Problem” and concluded with the language “the trolley problem”.
It seems one could make any choice into “a” trolley problem. But Tuvix problem is certainly not “the trolley problem”. This is about emergence of consciousness. In the trolley problem, the characters cease to exist. Neither choice here would end, say, Tuvok’s consciousness.
- Comment on What can i do with an old netbook? 9 months ago:
I have an old netbook. I can’t offer help, but I can share my plan.
I hope to have it network boot from my useful computer. That way, I can use it in the kitchen to browse recipes and stuff. Of course, then I also get to brag about having a mainframe. No one has to know it’s a <$1k laptop.
I’m not sure if that would work for you. my netbook is 4GB ram.
Incidentally, I had a System76 computer with about those specs way back when. I loved it. It’s hard to justify that form factor now since flagship phones are basically filling that role today. But now that I think about it, it’s kinda like the equivalent of a 2024 smartphone was in my everyday-carry in 2009. Kinda wild to think about it that way. Not that it could make phone calls, but my phone doesn’t seem to do that either :P
- Comment on Cable firms to FTC: We shouldn’t have to let users cancel service with a click — Customers may “misunderstand the consequences of canceling,” say lobbyists 9 months ago:
Maybe the “rhetorical question” would article would be a better reply. I bet you weren’t expecting an analysis of why the half-price button idea was a nonstarter.
- Comment on Is "If A then B" equal to "B if and only if A"? 9 months ago:
“If A then B” means if A is true, then B is guaranteed to be true. Note that if B is true and A is false, “if A then B” is still true.
“B only if A” means the only way for B to be true is for A to be true. It’s weird, but it has the same truth table as “(not A) then B”.

It’s very difficult to quote Douglas Adams without sounding like you’re pandering to nerd culture. I don’t AI could pull it off.
I don’t what to think of someone who could blast off accusations like this, either.

Ok. Fair point. I guess I should say, they addressed their cringe. But I still thought it seemed like they were feigning concerned but actually doubling down.
- Comment on ‘Don’t Mess With Us’: WebMD Parent Company Demands Return to Office in Bizarre Video 10 months ago:
I love response to the backlash. It’s basically “Sorry our video was cringy and tonedeaf. We have removed the cringe.”

- Comment on Goodbye MatPat, thanks for everything 10 months ago:
It was stupid to use a kids show as an example. That episode aired in 2002. Only a small slice of people born 1980 to 2000 would care.
The other examples had an audience with a much wider age range.
