Brave Search is awful for non-English results. Startpage is decent but only because it’s basically Google results.
- Comment on Update now! Firefox plugs critical vulnerability that’s already being attacked 1 year ago:
I was wondering if this happend again so soon, since I already updated last week.
- Comment on Is there something like F-droid, but for windows software? 1 year ago:
Windows has billions of users, I guarantee you more than a few care about FOSS.
Also FOSS repos for Windows do exist, as explained in other comments here.
- Comment on Is there something like F-droid, but for windows software? 1 year ago:
I still use it on nearly every new Windows install (including when helping others setup). Although Ninite itself is not FOSS, it has many of the best open source Windows software in its curated list.
- Comment on Is there something like F-droid, but for windows software? 1 year ago:
There are a ton of great FOSS for Windows. Even before I moved to Linux as my primary OS, I used many of these because they were often just better than the proprietary alternatives.
- Comment on Which software do you mostly use for programming, and why? 1 year ago:
Visual Studio Ultimate is so heavy though. I wouldn’t want to use it other than the languages it was designed for.

This makes me really want to try this game. Believe it or not I already bought it, but I have no time/motivation to actually play.

Severance is great, but that’s on Apple TV+ not Prime Video.
- Comment on The Xbox Series S Is More Popular Than The Xbox Series X 1 year ago:
I wasn’t trying to be pedantic, I just misunderstood your comment.
- Comment on The Xbox Series S Is More Popular Than The Xbox Series X 1 year ago:
Well sure, but you said you just use them as media centers. Unless you count games as media too. But for just viewing streaming services there are cheaper options.
- Comment on The Xbox Series S Is More Popular Than The Xbox Series X 1 year ago:
I wouldn’t buy one just for media. Even premium media players like NVIDIA SHIELD TV or Apple TV cost less than Xbox Series S.

Lol thanks, I appreciate the push. I have more important things to be pushed towards though, such as work and personal tasks.
- Comment on Markdown everywhere 1 year ago:
Both Bitbucket and Confluence partially support Markdown, but they implement it in different ways which is maddening.

I keep meaning to check out Obsidian, but like you said, lazy.

The thing I dislike most about Atlassian products is that each of them has a completely different formatting engine and markup syntax. You’d think they’d be consistent but noooo

I don’t care much about upvotes, but about activities. Most posts on Lemmy have little to no comments.

We have a decent and varied user base with plenty of subject matter experts.
Do we?
- Comment on Docker compose questions 1 year ago:
No problem! Let me know if you have questions. Docker was new to me a few years ago, now I work with it professionally.
- Comment on Docker compose questions 1 year ago:
You need to learn how to write a Dockerfile (plenty of guides online). Not that a Dockerfile is different from a compose.yaml file (in development I use both).

Ironically enough, some of the Linux certification exams only work on Windows and macOS.

GNOME-based distros use JS for extensions.

Some book clubs are open for everyone.

Yeah and I imagine these book clubs don’t meet particularly late.

Same. I also found one in my city, might have to come by sometime.

It’s not sleeping I’m worried about, it’s not waking up.
- Comment on Why are people hyped about RSS regaining relevance? 1 year ago:
That’s the thing, I personally liked the YouTube homepage! Even with watch history disabled, I found it gave me decent mix of recommendations based on my region, subscriptions and Liked videos. I know many people dislike the YouTube algorithm but it actually worked well for me.
Now that YouTube has disabled my homepage (held hostage unless I turn on Watch History), I am far less inclined to go on YouTube and watch random videos. Which is probably a good thing for me, let’s be honest. On the other hand I don’t know what YouTube wanted to achieve with this move. I find it hilarious that my homepage is empty now by Google’s own choice.
