One of those three will be on Tony Abbot’s shortlist for being the next “Minister of Women”
- Comment on The US Says Electric Air Taxis Can Finally Take Flight Under New FAA Rules. 2 weeks ago:
As someone who works in aviation regulations, this just means they have updated the regulations - they have not greenlit any operators or any actual vehicle designs - that is still many years away given that manufacturers and operators would still need to seek approval to actually operate - that’s all still undecided - it’s just the framework is now there where it was not before.

Really? So I could use my Wacom Cintique and my 2024 versions of Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Animator on Linux then? Because I use them to make a living and if I cannot use them on Linux easily then there is no point.
As a former Linux user from the early 00’s the biggest hurdle was art software and convincing Linux users that Adobe software means more than just Photoshop……

Ah yeah fair enough that makes sense. Cheers!
- Comment on Crunchyroll just Committed a Federal Crime. 3 weeks ago:
Is Crunchyroll actually beholden to US law if they are a Japanese owned company?
Here in Australia the moment someone in the US cries foul it is waved away because simply not applicable to the laws of this country regardless what US federal law is broken, the same way all these other international companies wave away breaches of Australian law 🤷🏼♀️
I guess it would come down to the employment contract and if he was employed by a Japanese company or a US owned one?
Not sure which is why I ask.

- Comment on ISP to Supreme Court: We shouldn’t have to disconnect users accused of piracy 2 months ago:
I’m glad I live in Australia where this doesn’t happen thanks to previous attempts by IP copyright holders (mainly US based ones) to have similar policies forced upon ISP’s here and being told by judges here that the penalties and expectations and demands made by these said IP copyright holding companies was over the top and excessive and thrown out of court……
- Comment on A new report finds Boeing’s rockets are built with an unqualified work force 3 months ago:
Well that’s nothing new - I worked for them “briefly” (as in weeks - ended up with a better job offer!!) and as an actual aircraft mechanic I was disgusted by what I saw - they had supervising roles filled with non-aircraft trades people, training was done by a former boat mechanic, there were butchers and carpenters - who, if you asked them thought they were far more capable than an aircraft mechanic as, actual aircraft trades are considered “problematic” by Boeing management (who are all ex Toyota staff for the most part…) because - aircraft mechanics are too slow for a production line environment as we tend to take our time too much for their liking (oh because we want to get it right first time?!) 🤦🏼♀️
I left and a week later the Max was grounded - the garbage that was spewing from senior management right before the grounding was eye roll inducing - about how they stand by the product bla bla bla and have no idea how shiny new aircraft could just fall out the sky……of course we know how that turned out for them….
But yeah, Boeing, like Rolls Royce are not the brand a lot of people should think of as “high quality” until they sort their QA shit out and start employing actual aircraft tradespeople and engineeers who know what they are doing 🤷🏼♀️

I’m glad I wasn’t the only one scratching my head at why was this an issue….(30 + years in aircraft maintenance just not avionics trade, airframes and engines)
- Comment on Escalating scandal grips airlines including American and Southwest, as nearly 100 planes find fake parts from company with fake employees that vanished overnight 1 year ago:
I am an Aerospace Engineer (I was an Aircraft Maintenance Engineer by trade prior to going to University) and I have spent the last 30 years in the airline industry….it isn’t as bad as you are allegedly making it out to be….pilots are not engineers either……
Experience from the 60’s and 70’s isn’t really relevant to today’s industry- I started in the early 90’s and it’s massively different today from back then….so your point is?
I am also based in Australia so that might also make a bit of a difference because we have had no airline crashes in this country and we have a very strict Potentially Unwanted Parts (PUP’s) system and other checks and balances that because we are under EASA based regulations and not FAA ones (who, by the way allowed the PMA part system….where parts are no longer required to be manufactured by the OEM for aircraft….and I’ve got plenty of stories about that nonsense…)
So yeah…. I quite happily still fly everywhere around the world….

They are actually paid $25 an hour here in Australia- how is that only “gig money”?
Again, tipping is not a thing in Australia and should never be expected by drivers who actually choose to do this sort of work….

Oh that’s amazing!
The 80’s were certainly a different time. Especially when only allowed to access a computer at school for a few minutes in the day (Apple IIe) so all of us could “have a go at the computer in the library”!
I would never have imagined as a kid what it was going to be like today with smartphones and the internet everywhere….

We get asked for tips here in Australia where we have a minimum wage and no tipping culture - it’s rubbish because we don’t need to subsidise people’s income at all, but the app doesn’t differentiate countries customs it seems. Uber’s apps are the same always asking for tips despite minimum wage….

In regards to that twats tweet regarding the “the Australian people” - as a member of “the Australian people” I want to put it on record that that asshat does not speak for many of us here……some of us are pleased about this (the ABC app is a far better source of news without the rubbish and downright unintelligent comments that come from posting articles on social media anyway….)
