Bluesky is VC backed. They’ll want to make money down the road, and they’ll definitely train AI soon if not already.
- Comment on Amazon's Monopoly of the tech industry is ruining the US economy 1 month ago:
The retail side is also just a huge ad for Amazon as a company. It’s what everyday consumers know even if it doesn’t provide a huge amount of profit. It creates name recognition.

Companies don’t make as much money when it’s repairable. Washers and dryers used to last 20-25 years with a few repairs here and there. But companies weren’t making any money, so they started making unrepairable junk instead.
- Comment on Intel’s Troubles Complicate U.S. Chip Independence 2 months ago:
Sure, but it’s also hard to bid against a company that we all know the US government is not going to let fail.
- Comment on Intel’s Troubles Complicate U.S. Chip Independence 2 months ago:
I don’t think that’s necessarily true.
Much of Intel’s foundry future is bet on Intel 18A, the company’s next leading-edge semiconductor production process. This “1.8-nanometer” production process will combine multiple Intel innovations including 3D hybrid bonding, nanosheet transistors, and back-side power delivery. Demler says that, if all goes to plan, Intel’s 18A should compete directly with, or even exceed, TSMC’s upcoming 2N process technology.
- Comment on Intel’s Troubles Complicate U.S. Chip Independence 2 months ago:
good riddance to bad rubbish.
Well, that’s the thing. They are kind of “too big to fail” and Intel is too important for the US to let it fail or even get behind the curve.
There’s probably more government money headed their way. Just like there is more foreign government money headed to their competitors in other countries. It might become more of a subsidy battle between governments than a money-making competition between companies.
- Comment on Why does the USA have so few legal protections for ordinary people, and how can we change that? 2 months ago:
European countries are also capitalist countries, but they have much better consumer protections and laws. It can be done.

At its very core, capitalism breeds greed.

Sure, I understand that. Just not so sure that the companies approved the use of their products as props.

Any chance their campaign just randomly grabbed stuff from the grocery store and put them there? Not sure the companies approved of this display. They do the same thing with music at Trump rallies. They just assume they can use it.
- Comment on Hail our true supreme leader 2 months ago:
To me, in the photo on the left, Un doesn’t look anything like he does in real life. The Un on the right has more features that look real, but still not good. I think the Trump in either picture could have fooled someone, but it’s still just too smooth to look real.

The AI didn’t do a great job with Un. Pretty accurate with Trump.

- Comment on Is the US finally getting ‘all aboard’ with electric trains? 3 months ago:
Europe as a whole is not a lot smaller than the US, so I think many of the same efficiencies can be achieved. China has also been able to do it very efficiently, which is basically the same size as the US. Granted, they have a much larger population and more potential customers, but it can definitely be done.

Lol
- Comment on Is the US finally getting ‘all aboard’ with electric trains? 3 months ago:
You can have both. Europe has a great mix. So awesome to have the option to take the train or bus. They also have awesome road infrastructure in most places. Try comparing an American freeway to a German freeway. You feel like you’re in a third world country when you come back to the roads in the States.
- Comment on Is the US finally getting ‘all aboard’ with electric trains? 3 months ago:
I wish. The US is endlessly far behind on public transportation.
Talking to my own family members around the US, they only have eyes for their enormous gas guzzler pickup trucks that they use to run to the grocery store down the street.

- Comment on why isn't anyone calling for Trump to drop out. 4 months ago:
Trump controls a cult, that’s why.
Cult leaders can get their followers to do anything and the followers will forgive the leader for anything, including felonies. They will dismiss any criticism of the leader as lies or made up to hurt the leader politically. No matter how true the criticism might be.
At the end of the day, it’s very much like the relationship between religious worshippers and their god.
- Comment on Real 4 months ago:
Yeah. That’s why we can’t have nice things. The US should consider extended warranty rules similar to the EU. But that’s probably too “socialist” or whatever.
- Comment on Real 4 months ago:
While consumer laws in the US generally suck, there are a few stores that have amazing return policies and go out of their way to please customers, Costco being one of them.
I know a guy who brought back his 10-year-old broken plasma flatscreen TV without a receipt. They replaced it with a new model, no questions asked.
