- Comment on Sweden, Norway rethink plans for cashless societies over fears that fully digital payment systems would leave them vulnerable to Russian security threats 1 week ago:
In America, you can’t open a bank account without an address. That means that the homeless population can’t open a bank account (not easily, anyway), and therefore can’t get a debit card.
Cashless is a nice idea, but it is extremely prohibitive against the most vulnerable people (which, sadly, might be part of the point).
- Comment on In a new manifesto, OpenAI’s Sam Altman envisions an AI utopia – and reveals glaring blind spots. 1 month ago:
First of all, you make a great point.
Second of all, that quote made me laugh out loud. “In 15 words”? Why is that even there? I saw Sam sitting there with Word open, cursor blinking at the end of his sentence about how deep learning worked, wondering how to make it more impactful. So he copies the sentence and pastes it into a chatgpt box and asks, “how can I make this hit differently?” and chatgpt, in all it’s gptness, responds: “try counting the number of words in the sentence and throwing that in front.”

Here’s a quick tidbit I always have in the back of my mind:
If it’s an Italian name, it’s espresso-based, for example:
Americano - Espresso and water
Latte - Espresso and regular milk
Cappuccino - Espresso and steamed milk
Breve - Espresso and steamed half-and-halfIf it’s a French name, it’s coffee-based, for example:
Café - Plain coffee, sometimes called Café Noir Café au Lait - Coffee and regular milk Café Cremé - Coffee and cream (or sometimes half-and-half) Café Americano - Coffee and water, it’s the French version of the Italian style.
What’s the difference between coffee and espresso? Coffee is brewed and steeped. Espresso is created by forcing water through very, very densely-packed coffee grounds using high pressure. Coffee is typically enjoyed in cups and espresso is typically consumed in “shots” because of the strong flavor.

That’s great! Everyone was joking about the doors falling off of Starliner, but I still find it unbelievable that these poor people are actually stuck for 8 months.

The connection from Assange to Russia was laid out in the OP. Russia had a vested interest in skewing and interfering with US politics in 2016.
There’s the relevancy you failed to see.

This is a little misleading. It’s $170k in pay and benefits, not just salary. Still, UPS drivers deserve it and this will make everyone’s experience with UPS so much better.
