- Comment on WordPress is federating now - what are your favorite blogs? 1 year ago:
The thing about WordPress federation… Nothing shows up outside of the actual blog unless it was published after the federation happened.

Switch to a PAYG account. Continue to use Always Free resources. Still pay nothing. And don’t get your account yoinked for underutilization anymore.
That’s worked for me so far, for almost a year now. (knock on wood)
- Comment on how do you have fun even a game have a grading system? 1 year ago:
I suppose I could’ve been less of a butthole about it…
But I just look at the letter grade on games like Devil May Cry or Final Fantasy 13 and think “why is that even here?”.
Then I just pay no attention to it at all. It’s not like a bad grade means you beat the level any less.
And if they base trophies off it, then I don’t try getting all the trophies. More often than not, getting a Platinum Trophy on a game sucks all of the fun out of it anyways. Hard pass.

Honestly, I can’t stand Soulsbornes.
It’s okay to be bad at stuff. And, surprise! All of us are, no matter how many people tell us we’re perfect at everything and can do no wrong.
I’m not going to let it ruin my day like OP if a videogame tells me I did less than SSS performance on a level.

OP’s perfect world.
Buy game. Install game. Launch game. “YOU WIN!”
- Comment on How has your Lemmy experience changed over the past few months? 1 year ago:
Communities are going quiet.
Bots posting links to AI spam websites are taking the place of the old posters & commenters.
Moderation is non-existent, and spam sits unchecked in /c’s like mildlyinteresting.
- Comment on What should I name my Firefish instance 1 year ago:
There are a lot of Firefish companies out there.
I worry a little that they’ll need to rebrand again in the not-too-distant future.

- Comment on Are there any reputable independent gaming sites left? 1 year ago:
No.
This is not what Discord is for.
People need to stop trying to use Discord as a forum, or a wiki, or a website, or a file repo, or as the Support page for a product.
Discord is group chat. You say something. It’s relavent for five minutes. Then it might as well have never happened.
- Comment on As of right now, firefish.social has been down for nearly 2 days upgrading and changing databases, as their data migration is taking longer than expected. 🤞 1 year ago:
You only have to look at the dev’s pinned posts on their Firefish account to see what you’re talking about.
I’d asked the dev (on the official Firefish account) whether there would be a Docker release for the latest hotfix beta, and got a lecture and an “unamused” 😒 emoji reaction. That was kind of the last straw after dealing with some fairly broken federation on my selfhosted Firefish server.
So, I’m back on Mastodon after a month-long experiment with Firefish.
- Comment on Valve: don’t expect a faster Steam Deck ‘in the next couple of years’ 1 year ago:
Probably for the best. The Deck certification process on games would probably be annoying if they had a whole bunch of revisions with only like 10% difference in performance.
Wait a few years and make the next one a meaningful jump.
- Comment on How to Follow WordPress Blogs From Anywhere on the Fediverse 1 year ago:
I’m not sure federating is retroactive on any of these platforms. So any posts you made prior to installing the plugin won’t show up anywhere outside of your actual WordPress blog.
- Comment on Microsoft estimated Valve’s revenue in 2021 at $6.5bn Interesting to see another view on the scale of Valve’s business 1 year ago:
Valve pockets 30% of almost every PC game sale by every company ever.
Honestly, I’m surprised that number isn’t higher.

I see what you did there.

Heck, I didn’t even state an opinion.
The venom in the replies is real, though.

I find it interesting that many of us ran screaming from the corporate Algorithms that warped our brains for the last 10+ years.
And now we’re trying to put algorithms here.
- Comment on WordPress blogs can now be followed in the fediverse, including Mastodon 1 year ago:
Kind of a bummer that only the content you post after installing the plugin actually gets published anywhere. But that’s federation.
- Comment on Retroid Pocket 2S 1 year ago:
I found myself streaming PC & PS5 games to my 3+ way more than I expected to. Probably 75% of my usage so far.
That wouldn’t be much fun on a 4:3 screen.
- Comment on What specs to look for in an Optiplex SFF/MFF pc? 1 year ago:
Definitely consider 16GB if you’re using Immich. I started with 8GB and had to upgrade. (on the bright side, 32GB DDR4 was just over $40)

- Comment on Notes on using a single-person Mastodon server 1 year ago:
One reason behind it is that people are taking to defederation, simply based on whether or not you yourself defederarated some third party.
See the Threads “grab your pitchfork” posts here on Lemmy for reference… Plenty of “we need a list of people who didn’t defed Threads so we can defederate them”
- Comment on What specs to look for in an Optiplex SFF/MFF pc? 1 year ago:
I would say at least 7th gen Intel. Its QuickSync is one version newer than 6th gen, and QuickSync didn’t get another update until the 10th gen CPUs.
7th through 9th gen CPUs QuickSync added h265 encoding, and 10bit h265 decoding. Also there are the all-around speed & quality improvements that come with each QuickSync generation.
- Comment on Notes on using a single-person Mastodon server 1 year ago:
Similar methods, I guess.
The guy running FediBuzz has been asking people to donate API keys as a workaround. It remains to be seen how it will all turn out.
- Comment on Notes on using a single-person Mastodon server 1 year ago:
Something about blocking access to data for not-logged-in visitors.
Blocking AI scrapers, I think.
- Comment on Notes on using a single-person Mastodon server 1 year ago:
FediBuzz relays have been absolutely indispensable on my own single-user Mastodon server. Without them, following hashtags would be futile, as id only see hashtags from accounts I already follow.
Unfortunately, Mastodon is killing FediBuzz in its next 4.2 update.
My only other option is to relay with entire other servers, which will add tons of unwanted storage on my server – including shady stuff from the gross corners of those servers that I probably don’t want stored locally.
It almost feels like they’re trying to push me to use a big server.
- Comment on Reiverr: A clean UI for Jellyfin, TMDB, Sonarr and Radarr, as well as a replacement to Overseerr 1 year ago:
Yep, I have that enabled in Overseerr. A couple people have used it. But mostly, people prefer to manually request stuff with Overseerr.
Unfortunately, it usually takes a minute or so to get Overseer to load.
- Comment on Reiverr: A clean UI for Jellyfin, TMDB, Sonarr and Radarr, as well as a replacement to Overseerr 1 year ago:
Was curious to take a look as an Overseerr replacement (Overseer has been running painfully, painfully slow for awhile)
But it looks like Jellyfin is currently a hard requirement to use Reiverr (I have Plex).
- Comment on You can now verify your Threads profile on Mastodon 1 year ago:
Against what? Against people having “verified” ✅ checkmarks next to websites they put in their Mastodon profile?
Because that’s all this is.
- Comment on You can now verify your Threads profile on Mastodon 1 year ago:
This story is such a huge nothingburger. You can put
rel=“me”
in the meta tags for your Threads account. Whoopty freakin’ doo.I get it. Meta sucks. It really does.
But the reactions here only prove that most of the people carrying pitchforks don’t actually know what it is they’re against, aside from “Zuckerberg lizardman bad”.
- Comment on You can now verify your Threads profile on Mastodon 1 year ago:
This isn’t connecting to ActivityPub any more that putting “rel=me” in the head of an old Blogger blog is.
I guess the real question is this is “why?”. If they’re truly planning on federating, this is the equivalent of having your mastodon.social account show up as “verified” on your mastodon.world alt account.
