- Comment on Is it safe to use pans with peeling nonstick coating? 11 months ago:
Nothing is nonstick like Teflon … But the VAST majority of cooking doesn’t require that level of nonstick, either.
Unless you have a French omelette addiction, you probably don’t need Teflon.
- Comment on Flipboard leaves X for Mastodon 11 months ago:
Lemmy only has the information that I give it.
And it demands fairly little information.
I’ll take that in exchange for nobody privately owning as much of my shit as they can get their filthy hands on.
- Comment on The only thing that is preventing basic living essentials for costing more is whether the capitalist class feel like rising the price or not. 11 months ago:
Manufacturers set minimum prices for their products. Generally, suggested retail price and minimum advertisable price.

Feels pretty real to my bank account.
- Comment on TikTok says it’s not the algorithm, teens are just pro-Palestine — The company denied allegations that it has been promoting pro-Palestine content in an effort to sway American opinion 11 months ago:
Hamas is a jihadist organization though…
If they don’t represent the majority maybe they should hold elections and let a party that represents the majority take the lead?

There’s no extermination. Quit getting your talking points from Tiktok and Twitter.

America.
2x4 studs are 3.5" deep. Even interior walls have drywall on both sides, usually over a half inch, but even half inch drywall, tape, mud, and paint, gets us to 4.5-5" thick.
That gives you a 2 inch “buffer”.
Is your body thicker than 2"?
There’s just no way it works.
- Comment on Choose wisely! 11 months ago:
2 and 7 feels OP compared to any other combo by a mile. Definitely getting nerfed in the next patch.
- Comment on Choose wisely! 11 months ago:
Unfortunately most walls are thicker than 7" when accounting for decorations, furniture, trim, etc. Not to mention adding your own thickness.
- Comment on YSK about the different “ways of knowing” 11 months ago:
Arguing from empathy with no regard for facts is hopeless.
Arguing from facts with no regard for empathy is dangerous.
We need both.
- Comment on Spotify re-invented the radio 1 year ago:
You pick songs, they squeeze ads and other songs in between (IIRC) and can gather data from how you interact with all of that.
You’re understanding the value of big data.
It’s why I reject all of these services. CDs, baby!
- Comment on This sign says it all. 1 year ago:
Another great way of not getting your civilians targeted is to wear identifying uniforms.
It’s almost like Hamas doesn’t want to prevent civilian casualties.
- Comment on This sign says it all. 1 year ago:
As far as I understand that’s the definition of fungibility, right? Every dollar is interchangeable and identical?
So there’s no functional difference between deleting $1 and creating $1 except semantics, compared to moving $1, as long as the total value doesn’t change.
The government just deleting money and printing money to pay for whatever it wants suggests that those things aren’t equal, which would be the problem if it were true.
- Comment on New videos of Tesla Cybertruck off-roading appear to show it struggling to climb up a steep dirt hill 1 year ago:
I hate Elon Musk and I still like the cybertruck.
I’m ashamed but I’d probably buy one and be happy with it, 100% in the city, doing mostly light hobby work, towing a boat, or locally camping.
- Comment on New videos of Tesla Cybertruck off-roading appear to show it struggling to climb up a steep dirt hill 1 year ago:
Look at the tires, they are pretty suboptimal.
I switched to an EV 3 years ago and there is way too much torque at low rpm. The power curve just probably isn’t designed for loose dirt. Not to mention the cyber truck weighs a billion pounds.

- Comment on What makes a bicycle so expensive? 1 year ago:
“some brands of bikes” make frames out of carbon fiber with wireless derailleurs and have rear facing radar to detect when other bikes or vehicles are approaching, how fast, and on which side.
When your exercise, your recreation, your hobby, and your transportation are all the same thing, it’s easy to justify spending more to make those things as easy and pleasant as possible.
You can get a perfectly usable bike for very little money in America… Probably still made in China though 😂

- Comment on YouTube intensifies fight against ad blockers showing pop-ups, and users are frustrated | Blocking ad-block users 1 year ago:
You literally just proved my point.
It wasn’t profitable. And it was free. It killed competition by losing money.
And now, by your concession, they are turning it into a business.
That’s a fundamental change in the service. Fuck that. Either it was always their intent, in which case they were lying scum the whole time. Or it wasn’t their intent and they’ve just decided spontaneously to prioritize profit, in which case it’s greed and betrayal.
Either way, fuck 'em.

- Comment on YouTube intensifies fight against ad blockers showing pop-ups, and users are frustrated | Blocking ad-block users 1 year ago:
YouTube defended their monopoly by running for free. They murdered the growth of legitimate competitions like Vimeo that had healthier business models… Because they didn’t try to run for free.
And now that they’ve saturated the market and killed off all of the serious competition it’s time to profit
Well, frankly, go fuck yourself.
So long YouTube, and thanks for all the fish. 🐬
- Comment on Spotify re-invented the radio 1 year ago:
Your search data and history.
Listening profiles: what tastes do you have, and what other things do you like? If you like Ray Lamontagne and Taylor Swift what else might keep you on the platform?
What % of people like X? What sorts of trends are happening in music? Chord preferences, rhythms, bpm, etc
All of this aggregate data can be sold to different companies, record labels, etc.
- Comment on Spotify re-invented the radio 1 year ago:
… Except they gather your data and use it to try and make profit.
Say least radio required them to give genuine value to you. Radio had to give away shit and run contests to get caller info to figure out how many listeners they had, to get advertisers etc. It was a real business.
Spotify just buys the music catalogue and then forces you into their ecosystem.
