There is a global plague of conservatism happening right now, so statements like these cannot be presumed to be sarcastic.

Do you think people 2000 years ago were all stupid?
If they did as you described, then yes.

That’s because “centrist” is just what conservatives call themselves when they are too embarassed to admit they are conservatives.

- Comment on [Serious] Why do so many people seem to hate veganism? 1 month ago:
The implication is that this is common. I don’t think even one vegan is vegan just to show off some kind of privelege. This is just a childish and unrealistic caricature that does not exist in reality.
- Comment on [Serious] Why do so many people seem to hate veganism? 1 month ago:
Um… Ima call bullshit real quick. I don’t think you have ever met a single person who is as you’ve drawn in your cartoon here.
Also, why would a vegan or vegetarian be obligated to eat an animal-based product just because it was a gift? That would be weird as fuck. You don’t eat sausage or cheese? Here’s a sausage and cheese basket. It’s a gift; you have to eat it.
And finally, you are suggesting that vegans kill cats. Cats are obligate carnivores. Vegan cat owners know this. A “vegan cat” will not survive long. Suggesting vegans force cats to be vegans is just an absurd falsehood.

Generations of marketing.

The Threads threat is a big-picture threat. The specifics can change month to month, but the end goal here is a corporate take-over of a FOSS technology. Gate-keeping at the dev level right now is a situation that can change over time as the corporation continues to insist itself upon the community. We will need to stay vigilant against this threat forever.
They are the borg. The defense against them will take stamina, patience and resilience.
- Comment on 1 month ago:
If the Threads userbase eclipses the non-Threads userbase (which it would), and their dev budget eclipses the public’s (which it would), then Threads would heavily influence the development of the entire platform. Instances would be subject to Threads-influenced updates and “upgrades”, leading to eventual enshittification for everyone. To avoid their updates, you would need to defederate from the Threads-verse, where all the users are.
To prevent this scenario from happening to the current most active instances, theae instances need to stay defederated to begin with and therefore remain uninfluenced by the “development” that Threads will be pushing for Activity Pub and Lemmy servers.

How does this compare to the Fairphone (or Murena Fairphone in U.S.)? Fairphone’ repairability is extensive and suggests they will have updates for 10 years.
- Comment on Whistleblower 'would not' put family on Boeing 787 jet 2 months ago:
The government already heavily subsidizes the “struggling” industry (that somehow still makes outrageous profits). The government really should exercise more control over the industry, given that they (we) pay a very high annual price for it to exist.

These are not products “made or designed in Israel”. That list is just companies that support Israel.
I just don’t want anyone to have the false impression that a relationship with Israel is necessary. It definitely is not.

They are de-googled. They have replacements for pretty much everything, including email. You can import your google contacts to the non-google phone. The only google stuff on my fairphone is what I put on it myself. I can still download and run every app on the app store if I choose.
- Comment on Microsoft starts testing ads in the Windows 11 Start menu 2 months ago:
Not Fairphones. Fairphones are ad-free, bloatware-free and privacy-focused.
- Comment on Google Won’t Say Anything About Israel Using Its Photo Software to Create Gaza “Hit List” 2 months ago:
Their use of Google’s technology is part of Israel’s overall genocide which ultimately targets innocent families and aid workers.
Nobody should be providing tools of war to a country committing genocide. Nobody. Not the U.S. and not Google. Unlike the U.S. though, Google is actually making profits from the tech they sell to Israel, meaning Google is profitting from a genocide.
