- Comment on Misinformation spreads in China on ‘civil war’ in Texas 9 months ago:
But in the meantime, there are far right, well, fascists trying to amass more and more power.
The problem there is, the DNC are the very people helping promote these far right fascists in an attempt to foster that attitude of lesser-evil-ism. There’s been a bunch of leaks on that topic, but still by far the most prominent was 2016 Trump (if you want to know more about that, google “pied piper trump hillary”), and there’s no reason to think they’ve stopped.
I don’t know what the solution is. Voting for any good candidates in local elections, and green in the general (unless one of the other parties does something to earn your vote) maybe? But the problem is so entrenched that I’m not sure it even can be solved by voting. Situation just sucks in general.
- Comment on Misinformation spreads in China on ‘civil war’ in Texas 9 months ago:
I have to preface this by saying I’m voting for Biden
And this is why things will not change. Why should he, or any DNC member, do anything for you? You have given up the one bit of leverage you have, your vote, and promised it to your designated betters no matter what they do to you and how much they sold you out.

Ah, the classic “nothing to hide” response.
How did that quote go again? “Show me the man and I’ll show you the crime”? Even things you think may be innocuous can and will be used against you if given reason to.
- Comment on YouTube is now fully blocking ad blockers around the world 1 year ago:
I’m also on Librewolf, but most people are not all that tech-savvy, so basic Firefox is better for them just because it has auto-update.
- Comment on Microsoft seeks EU Digital Market Acts exemption for underdog apps like Edge | Vivaldi boss calls for browser choice and warns that Redmond might be deflating usage figures 1 year ago:
Firefox user here. Vivaldi is the best chromium-based browser I’ve found, so I use it for sites that refuse to work with non-chromium browsers.

Blue Blocker is a great extension for anyone still using Twitter.
- Comment on Youtube's Anti-adblock is illegal in the EU 1 year ago:
That’s how the corporate-written laws in the USA handle it most likely. The EU actually has some amount of consumer protection. Burying it in a 100 page terms of service document doesn’t count as consent either.
- Comment on Youtube's Anti-adblock is illegal in the EU 1 year ago:
Not an expert either, but from what I’ve seen, the EU actually has some amount of consumer protection. The USA on the other hand mostly lets big corporations get away with whatever they want, as long as they make some “donations”.

Saved you a click: New Zealand and the Philippines are the countries.
- Comment on Pawoo, a Japanese Mastadon instance on the Fediverse notoriously bad about moderating CSAM, has been taken down. 1 year ago:
Nah. They’re lax about loli. Which, as distasteful as it is, does not involve any harm to actual children. They do go after actual CSAM.
- Comment on I have never seen an ad in the past 6 years. I use android phone, windows PC and Android TV. Keen to hear when was the last time you saw an AD ? 1 year ago:
Don’t forget to use Ridge Shadow VPN when anonymously buying your Pepsi!
- Comment on lemmy.ml has been banned in China mainland 1 year ago:
It was in AskLemmy iirc. Which, yeah, definitely the wrong place to post that.
- Comment on You can no longer activate new Windows 11 builds with Windows 7 or 8 keys; maybe last chance to activate using Windows 7 or 8 keys, for 22H2. 1 year ago:
Cheap license sites (windows, games, etc) usually use keys bought via stolen credit cards. Pirating it is much better than buying from those sites, including for the devs that get punished for chargebacks from those keys.

Also it’s very funny when someone says something very stupid and is met with a giant picture of a pig shitting on its own balls.
Ehh, most instances would reasonably call that out as trolling. PPB is the opposite of a good faith argument.
- Comment on [deleted] 1 year ago:
While I’m mostly neutral on Hexbear, I do have one significant issue with it: Your emojis show as giant images on other instances, and hexbear users seem to love using those emojis everywhere. I’d recommend using spoiler tags to hide them when posting to other communities until that’s fixed.

How were those other fines percentage-wise? According to another comment, this is a 3.7% fine.

Idk, sounds like victim blaming to me.
- Comment on Opinions wanted: defederating with bot spam instances 1 year ago:
Possible alternative that doesn’t involve defederating: Banning those two bot accounts from lemm.ee. That way, any users on those sites would still be able to participate in posts here.
… Though, I’m not sure how many of those there actually are. Looking at the sidebar, zerobytes.monster has had 18 users in the last 6 months, and lemmit.online a grand total of 1 user in the last 6 months.
- Comment on Some veteran YouTube staff think Shorts might ruin YouTube 1 year ago:
I’m using some custom ublock origin filters that I found somewhere to block shorts across all of youtube:
!Youtube Shorts www.youtube.com###guide-content #endpoint[title="Shorts"]:upward(ytd-guide-entry-renderer) www.youtube.com###items #endpoint[title="Shorts"]:upward(ytd-mini-guide-entry-renderer) www.youtube.com##ytd-browse #dismissible ytd-rich-grid-slim-media[is-short]:upward(ytd-rich-section-renderer) www.youtube.com##ytd-browse ytd-grid-video-renderer:has(span.ytd-thumbnail-overlay-time-status-renderer[aria-label="Shorts"]) www.youtube.com##ytd-browse ytd-rich-item-renderer:has(span.ytd-thumbnail-overlay-time-status-renderer[aria-label="Shorts"]) www.youtube.com##ytd-search ytd-video-renderer:has(span.ytd-thumbnail-overlay-time-status-renderer[aria-label="Shorts"]) www.youtube.com##ytd-watch-next-secondary-results-renderer ytd-compact-video-renderer:has(span.ytd-thumbnail-overlay-time-status-renderer[aria-label="Shorts"]) www.youtube.com##ytd-browse[page-subtype="subscriptions"] ytd-video-renderer span.ytd-thumbnail-overlay-time-status-renderer[aria-label="Shorts"]:upward(ytd-item-section-renderer)
Also separately, for blocking videos that don’t exist yet, which I also dislike:
!Youtube upcoming videos www.youtube.com##ytd-browse ytd-grid-video-renderer:has(ytd-thumbnail-overlay-time-status-renderer[overlay-style="UPCOMING"]) www.youtube.com##ytd-browse ytd-rich-item-renderer:has(ytd-thumbnail-overlay-time-status-renderer[overlay-style="UPCOMING"]) www.youtube.com##ytd-browse[page-subtype="subscriptions"] ytd-video-renderer ytd-thumbnail-overlay-time-status-renderer[overlay-style="UPCOMING"]:upward(ytd-item-section-renderer)
