Why do these companies need a contract?

- Comment on 1.1 History 11 months ago:
You and me both. I love documentaries and when I get on a space kick, I think about this a lot. What did it look like? What’s nothing? My brain can’t fathom literally nothing. It had to be some sort of something. Almost makes me want to say that the universe does have a creator, but in that case, where’d the creator come from? (My favorite creation myth is that the Goddess danced and galaxies spun off on her dress. Makes as much sense as any of the others.)
- Comment on 1.1 History 11 months ago:
This is actually really cool. I have no idea about any of it, but I remember watching a documentary a long time ago that said certain mathematical patterns repeat all over nature. What you said seems similar to that.

All of these links say yes, it’s a law that the sale and production of synthetic meat is banned in Italy.

- Comment on There's no money for education and health care but they'll always find some for war. 11 months ago:
What would fix a lot of this would be a mechanism where the people could vote to remove someone from a federal position
A vote of no confidence and we get to reelect Congress?
Term limits would help too.
Term limits only help when you make politics about the issues rather than who has the most money to get noticed. Make the term limits too short and all you do is give it to the people with the most money considering our politicians currently spend half their time fund raising for their next election.
democratic process has failed us
This isn’t the fault of the democratic process, but allowing money to be speech, companies to be people, and the oligarchy to take over.

Of course my breathing is all I can think about now.
- Comment on hmm 11 months ago:
It depends on how you think about it. I think of it as giving my kids a piece of myself in my love and effort to care for them. They are their own people, but they carry a part of me.
- Comment on hmm 11 months ago:
I don’t think this person believes that people are actively making up intrusive thoughts or talking about something that doesn’t happen. It seems like they’re saying that thoughts, any thoughts, are our imagination, intrusive or otherwise.

I’m fairly certain they don’t think people should work for free, but that the cost of a surgery shouldn’t be several bills to the hospital, the doctor, the anesthesiologist, the nurses, and wherever else they come up with who want s separate bill.

It’s also like when you ignore that video game makers research and develop how to make their game as addictive as possible and ignore an entire thread talking about it. Oh wait…

Social contacts or social contracts? Does gambling fall under this? I could see someone arguing that some of these games are essentially gambling.

- Comment on Potions and lotions 1 year ago:
So did my then five year old. She had a period where she went through an entire hand soap dispenser every two days until we got her to quit. She still uses shampoo, but as far as we can tell, only (mostly?) when we give her permission. It doesn’t run out super fast.

Ours has a function where you press and hold one of the numbers and it turns off the beeps. Not sure what it is anymore, but most people should be able to look it up and find one for their microwave.

I wouldn’t. The vast majority of people are not tech savvy and generally just go with whatever the default is.
- Comment on You’ve just spent $400 on a baby monitor. Now you need a subscription | Once upon a time there was a company called Miku who wasn’t making quite enough money... 1 year ago:
I actually agree with this. We use a big fan at night that’s really loud. With the baby’s door closed and the fan on, I wouldn’t hear her unless she cried super loud or screamed. I personally think it’s nuts that some people never used a baby monitor. There’s no way I wouldn’t have one.

Don’t listen to them. They’re exaggerating. Fuck cars is about wanting infrastructure to make more places walkable, not insisting everywhere must be walkable or accessible by public transit. Even though that would be cool, that’s so far from the actual truth.

- Comment on I hate how everything requires you to download a shitty proprietary data harvesting app nowadays when everything can be done just fine without an app. 1 year ago:
I actually don’t like it partially because of the privacy bit, but also because of all the apps needed for everything for myself and my kid’s stuff I have run out of room on my phone. I had to go through today and find things to delete and my phone is still prompting me to “archive” apps because my available storage is so low. It says I will be able to restore the app if need be, but I shouldn’t need that many apps that they fill up my entire storage.
