- Comment on Steam is 'an unsafe place for teens and young adults': US senator warns Gabe Newell of 'more intense scrutiny' from the government if Valve doesn't take action against extremist content 1 day ago:
Think of it like your house. You can ask people to leave if they say something you find offensive. That is not infringing on their free speech.
If the owner of a shopping mall wants to ban the word banana, they can ask anyone who says it to leave. That is also not infringing on their free speech. That’s because shopping malls are not owned and operated by the government.
- Comment on Bluesky Becoming New Social Media Sensation As Millions Of Americans Snub X Over Musk's Support To Trump 3 days ago:
Like Lemmy or any social media really, you get out what you put in. If you just follow the generic feed without following anyone, yeah it’s going to suck.
You can make lists, so one for your friends, one for news, one for a hobby. Or you can filter hash tags to really narrow in on a topic. People also make “starter packs” of who to follow for any topic you can think of.
This format is also unbeatable for breaking events.

- Comment on X's controversial changes to blocking and AI training saw half a million users leave for rival Bluesky in just a single day 4 weeks ago:
Because users value usability over privacy.
The major thing that make Mastodon unusable is lack of users. That and lack of algorithmic feeds.
- Comment on X's controversial changes to blocking and AI training saw half a million users leave for rival Bluesky in just a single day 4 weeks ago:
That’s a good point. The original question was why would someone pick blenny Bluesky over mastodon? You just hit the nail on the head.
It’s because the vast majority of users value features and usability much higher than privacy.

Funny you compared the atmosphere to Night in the Woods, the same sound designer did both games.

I think we’re about 8ft? I’ve heard there’s no minimum really. Basically you don’t want to have to physically turn your head to see either side… But beyond that the closer you are the better you see the picture.
Aiui the distance thing was more back in the day where if you sat too close you’d notice pixels. But with modern resolutions that’s not a problem anymore.

If you’re patient and can go over budget, an OLED might not be totally out of reach. I snagged a 77” OLED for ~1600 USD earlier this summer (refurb from third party reseller). You might be able to find one close to your budget if you drop down the size a bit.
- Comment on NAS / NAS + server? Unraid, Proxmox, Intel, AMD? Looking for guidance. 2 months ago:
I’m currently using Unraid for pretty much every thing you listed, and I love it so much. I really appreciate being able to set up almost everything through the web. It makes my hobbies feel fun rather than just an extension of my day job.
That said, I bought the licence before they switched to a subscription model. So if I were starting over I might look into free alternatives.
- Comment on NAS / NAS + server? Unraid, Proxmox, Intel, AMD? Looking for guidance. 2 months ago:
You can still buy a lifetime subscription for Unraid, it’s just a lot more expensive.

Rabbit and Steel - Cross between a bullet hell and roguelite with raid style gameplay. Requires very close co-ordination with your team to survive (up to 4 player co-op). Punishing but rewarding.

Due to his advanced age, Jonathan spends his days doing almost everything with his mate, including eating, sleeping and mating… The sex of Frederica, … his companion since 1991, was cast into doubt in 2017 when island veterinarian Catherine Man indicated that due to a deformity of its plastron its sex could not be verified,[4] and is now known to be male, being renamed Frederik.

- Comment on "Privacy-Preserving" Attribution: Mozilla Disappoints Us Yet Again 4 months ago:
You’re absolutely correct.
Some folks here just want to ban ads outright, but don’t stop to think what that would mean. The one that frightens me is what happens to the already crumbling news industry when they additionally lose all advertising revenue? And don’t say subscriptions, because those won’t come close to cutting it. Maybe a couple outlets like the Times could survive, but all the others are going under.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance - $8.29 CAD
Probably my favourite ARPG. You play as a peasant with no skill, and that actually translates in game. If you’ve ever rolled your eyes at games where you effortless smash waves upon waves of enemies, this game is for you. Beating even the lowliest grunt can be quite challenging, forcing you to play in ways other than “beat everything up”.
The neat thing is the story is not only based on real life events, but all the towns exist (still to this day in the Czech Republic), the geography is super accurate (relative distnace, rivers, ridges, etc) and even the buildings are modelled off the real things (some are still standing, or you can still see their ruins).
This game ticked so many boxes for me, and is a steal at $8
- Comment on The Steam Summer Sale is live now! 4 months ago:
I get the principled reason to do this. But most people aren’t set up to pirate. And even if they were, it’s inconvenient to have games not attached to their steam library. I don’t think anyone should deprive themselves of this masterpiece.
If the prospect of pirating is holding you back, just buy it. The game is too good to miss out
