- Comment on Why is voting before the deadline in US elections referred to as 'early voting'? 4 weeks ago:
Election Day is traditionally the day to vote, campaigns are still running before that point. Anyone who votes earlier does so with less information than later voters. Trump could say something stupid between now and Election Day, and wouldn’t you feel bad if you’d already voted for him and couldn’t take it back?
- Comment on Why is voting before the deadline in US elections referred to as 'early voting'? 4 weeks ago:
Same reason morning is earlier in the day than night. This is just how linear time works.

It’s sad how many docile idiots remained on Reddit and Twitter after last year.

global warming
When WFH began, I stopped taking the subway into the city every day and instead spent a lot more time driving around the suburbs. My car’s mileage and my ecological footprint went way up. You can’t just make up a statement and have it be true.

- Comment on Queer.af mastodon instance has been shut down by the Taliban 9 months ago:
Ultimately each country makes the rules for domains under its top level, for those that are named for the country, like .af for Afghanistan. Everything about the instance is intact and can be moved to a different domain.
- Comment on Vision Pro EyeSight feature doesn't really work, argues Macworld 9 months ago:
Going to take a guess that Apple realized VR isn’t happening this generation, didn’t want the embarrassment of canceling it, so they released it at such a high price point that only a relatively few rubes would buy it, so when they abandon it there won’t be enough people to complain and make bad press out of it.
- Comment on OpenAI wants to raise 5-7 trillion dollars. Yes, Trillion 9 months ago:
Could that level of investment ever be recouped in any other manner than by replacing vast numbers of workers and their salaries?

But they’re not profiting. Eventually they’ll have to stop throwing away their money speculatively.
- Comment on OpenAI CEO Altman says at Davos future AI depends on energy breakthrough 9 months ago:
So the silver lining to no energy breakthrough soon is they’ll eventually have to give up on this AI shit because they can’t make it run profitably.

- Comment on Is "True Detective" season 2 bad, or just bad compared to season 1? 1 year ago:
Season 2 wasn’t bad. Even season 1 doesn’t measure up to the idea of season 1. I tried to rewatch it but couldn’t get far. The dialogue is kind of cringe. I enjoyed it once, but it didn’t go anywhere too interesting and in hindsight the self important dialogue isn’t earned.
