- Comment on Nightingale Developer Inflexion Games Is Laying Off Staff 3 weeks ago:
They jumped the gun releasing without a campaign at launch. People were merciless in reviews about that. It’s better since that was added but still feels a bit hollow. I hope this isn’t a mistake because it has potential and seems like it’s evolving quickly.
- Comment on “I am still alive”: Users say T-Mobile must pay for killing “lifetime” price lock 4 weeks ago:
They’re also assholes as customers. Worked for a company that did monitoring for them and they were an absolute nightmare to deal with. They were so demanding of our time and liked to wave around legal threats so often that eventually management shelled out for a consulting company (who were SMEs with our product) just to manage their install.
- Comment on Amazon tech workers leaving for other jobs in response to return to office mandate 1 month ago:
Yeah this attrition is expected by Amazon. IBM and others did this earlier. If enough people choose to RTO they will do “real” layoffs and get a pat on the back in the news for not letting as many people go as they would have had to before. Optics I guess. IIRC this is the second round for Amazon.
Some are saying companies are doing this to keep their property values up but I think that’s only one facet. What I don’t see being called out often is companies doing this are hiring replacements overseas in tax havens and/or where they can pay less for talent. Real kicker is, those hires wind up being remote anyway to the anchor offices.

I didn’t know it existed until a popular streamer begrudgingly “reviewed” it at the last minute. Found it strange that there was zero marketing for such an expensive and long developed investment.

Used them since the company started but stopped this year due to the cost going up. Never had an issue.
- Comment on Thought's on this Raspberry Pi Rival? board handled 20 open Chrome tabs and 4K video playback smoothly ,board has Rockchip 8-core ARM processor, 32 GB of RAM, Mali G610 GPU, competing with top OOPS. 4 months ago:
I don’t know if it’s still the case but kernel support and related was nearly always an issue when I tested Raspi alternatives for building homebrew robots. OS updates were a gamble and support and documentation was not good to say the least. Raspi also has every HAT you can imagine to extend their capabilities too.
- Comment on The Sega Dreamcast 6 months ago:
Yep. It’s such a nice piece of hardware. And the games hold up to this day. Glad it’s appreciated now.
- Comment on The Sega Dreamcast 6 months ago:
They kinda screwed up the timing with it. Launched when everyone and their mother already had a PS2 and got left in the dust. Was also difficult to get one due to limited supply. People tended to buy one console and stick with it for 5+ years, so the only people standing in line were fans or people with money to burn.
- Comment on The Sega Saturn 6 months ago:
In addition to what others said, due to the architecture it was notoriously hard to develop for. The Playstation dev kits were a dream to work with in comparison. Sega of Japan hedged their bets on 2D remaining king due to the Japanese market preferring arcade ports and slowness to accept change, and slapped on some 3D capabilities almost as an afterthought. Meanwhile Sega of America assumed the US market would scoff at spending 500 on a console when the 32X had just released and was very similar (and also selling poorly).
Sony took risks by pushing 3D hard, were aggressive with pricing, did a ton of marketing, and completely ate Sega’s lunch. Despite the Saturn being arguably more powerful and better made than the PS1, it wasn’t enough to right the ship. And it continued on this downward spiral due to the negative impressions that Sega was dying with the Dreamcast where they again flubbed the launch timing while people were enamored with the N64 and the PS1 had a massive library.
There were lots of other shenanigans involved, I’m skimming the surface here. Regardless, both consoles have some bangers and I recommend trying some out if you ever have the chance. The hardware is also very cool if you can find them cheap but might need refurbed at this age.

Me too. Some development companies refuse to support it period or their games are unavailable to stream due to licensing etc., and that is the only reason I dual boot now. I would ditch it in a heartbeat otherwise.
- Comment on After 114 days of change, Broadcom CEO acknowledges VMware-related “unease” 8 months ago:
Pure damage control lingo. Anyone in the game for a while knows exactly how Broadcom operates. Theyre not hanging around while they squeeze the juice out until it becomes another SAP or Oracle. If he thinks a subscription model isn’t going to cause a mass exodus, he is a fool.

This is true. I also noticed certain vendors will sometimes have their own SKU of the “same” product - they’re just a different spec. Asus and MSI laptops are one example.

I use Amazon to find stuff I want or need. Then I look to see if I can buy direct and more often than not it’s close or close enough in price and shipping. Or I look for a specialty retailer like B&H if it’s electronic, Jenson USA for bike parts etc. As a side bonus they usually know how to pack items properly too.

I bought a keyboard kit recently and then discovered all the “documentation” to build it is on Discord. The creator’s last message was that he was working on other things after losing interest, and was not monitoring it anymore. So all the channels are full of messages asking where he is, what the status is, is he coming back, creepy simping, etc. Just put up a wiki on GitHub or something. It’s not that hard.

- Comment on Canada to ban the Flipper Zero to stop surge in car thefts 9 months ago:
…the same reason you don’t see Sony releasing every PS5 with a dev board. Of course you can extend the ESP32 or whatever microcontroller to do anything the Flipper can. That’s obvious. Go search around on GitHub there are thousands of projects you can do with the ESP32 that will have the FBI making a personal visit to your house. The whole point of the Flipper is it’s turnkey and makes it easy for people that are less skilled or don’t have the patience to do all that.

Mouse companies do this too. They ask you to cut the cord and video it usually. Or damage it until it’s completely unusable. Or they completely ignore you until you call them out on a public forum. Lookin at you, Cherry xtrfy 😉
