- Comment on What's the deal with male loneliness? 8 hours ago:
I think there is a lot of wisdom here. I’m old, many of my meaningful relationships were formed before three was an internet. Now I use online tools to stay in touch with friends who are friends I have interacted with face-to-face, not people know solely online.
That’s not to say meaningful relationships cannot be owned online. I have met a number of people IRL who I originally met playing Football Manager or on XBox Live.
But online relationships are not a substitute for real face-to-face interactions.
I tell people that making friends needs to be intentional. It takes work and commitment.

I am just sad she’s missing out.

Witcher 3 is my number 1 game of all time. My wife won’t play it because she hates Geralt’s voice.
- Comment on what was the last game you played in 2024? 3 days ago:
We’re playing on XBox Series X, and it behaves reasonably well. We typically split-screen while exploring, and merge the screens during battles.
When playing Divinity:Original Sin 2 we remained in merged screens 90% of the time, but for some reason it feels off in BG3, so we go with the merge only in battles.

Baldurs Gate 3 split screen with my wife.

Very very, heartbreakingly poor. When we first got to Kentucky was blown away by the number of “coal it keeps the lights on” license plates.
My wife hits 30 years in six years. Kentucky is high on my list of places for us to retire to.

When my wife PCSed from Long Island to Fort Knox we made several trips where we passed through West Virginia and I was always blown away at how gorgeous it is.

Great week. Off work and enjoying playing BG3 with my wife.

I don’t allow voice controls in my home, so this is a welcome development.

- Comment on Fired Employee Allegedly Hacked Disney World's Menu System to Alter Peanut Allergy Information. 2 months ago:
A while back a woman died after eating at a Disney restaurant and being assured that the food she was ordering was allergen free. Disney responded very poorly to the husband’s suit, but I wonder if the Disney employee believed things were allergen free because of one of these hacked menus.
- Comment on Paradox think there's no point competing with XCOM after their Lamplighters flop - it's "winner takes all" in the "tactical gaming space" 2 months ago:
This is so disappointing. I am a huge fan of Harebrained. Battletech is fantastic. I’m unsure why Lamplighters was unable to do what it needed to do.
- Comment on Nolte: CBS Corruption – Anchor Shamed for Coates Interview, ‘60 Minutes’ Rigs Kamala Interview 2 months ago:
So, definitely not conservative, but the first part of that headline is absolutely accurate. The man who asked Coates difficult questions has been publicly criticized by the network.
The second part of that headline is absolutely bullshit.

Yes, but what gorgeous country to get fucked in! When my wife PCSd from Long Island to Fort Knox, we drove through that country several times.
She would also spend a lot of time at Fort Lee (now Gregg-Adams) and the drive from Fort Knox to Fort Lee also crossed amazing parts of WV.

My father was an itinerant minister. He traveled all over the country. We made great use of TripTik (I think that’s what it was called).
- Comment on how do I accept that a doctor earns more than double what I do? 3 months ago:
Your worth, your value is not determined by what someone else makes.
Also, I’m a bit ignorant of this subject so forgive me if I get it wrong, but did he not go to school significantly longer for his MD than you did for yours?
I believe he also had to go through the hell that is residency, I didn’t believe nurses do.
If you’re envious of his salary, improve your skills, or your education. If you’re happy where you are at In life, then don’t let the fact that others make more than you interfere with that happiness.
No matter what you do, there will always be others who make more, one of those sad facts of life.

What a lovely post. Thank you for sharing it.
I’m 60 years old, my father passed many years ago. I have still not come to grips with all the complexities of our relationship. My wife knows that if we ever see a film or TV show where a parent, but particularly a father shows any form of approval for something their son did, I will turn into a blubbering mess.
That said, more rational me knows that there were many ways in which my father was a good dad, if am willing to take the time to look for them.
I have three sons and a daughter, my greatest hope in life is that they won’t have the same issues with me as a father that I did with my own dad.
Thanks again for this amazing story about how even small things we do can have a great impact, and not necessarily on those we expect them to.

I was delivering papers at 11 or 12. First real job at 14.
My daughter just turned 14 and she has her first job working one day a week at an after school program.
This should not be such a big deal. You learn important life skills and have your own money to spend.

Growing up I had a “shrunken head” kit that used apples and a 100 watt light bulb. It provided hair and stuff to make shrunken heads.
I thought it was cool, but my results never matched what was on the box.
