- Comment on Is there any truth to this? 1 day ago:
Yes. It enforces a bubble by its very nature. There is no main feeds, by default you see people you follow and posts they interact with. I don’t have a problem with that. I wouldn’t go into a pub with racists, and xenophobes, so I should have to do it online.
Anyway, first thing I did was sign up for a couple of blocks lists, and what saw was awful people.
Also, if you look a the moderation settings, there is a lot of objectional content that is or can be hidden basic of topic flags. This is content that on any sane networks should be banned and the users suspended. But of Bluesky its just hidden from view.
It’s basically a microcosm of the Internet. It’s not the Good Place for sure, and anyone who thinks that is deluded.
- Comment on Where to start? 6 days ago:
TNG from the start, but Iimit yourself to the 4 or 5 best rated episodes from Season 1 and 2. Then crack on with most of 3 and 4. 5 onwards starts to have a few more clunkers but by then you should have a good idea if you like it enough to take a chance.

Well, I have kids. So that 8 hour game will last me a month. Combine that with a 20 year backlog…

Lol. 90 hours games. Fuck that shit. I’ve never been on board with that nonsense. Give me a decent 8 hour game and stop destroying the lives of your employees with never ending crunch.

“These counterfeit phones, Cohen said, were either out of warranty or contained counterfeit parts, but Apple “wrongly” believed that they were real phones under real warranties”
So not counterfeit. Just real iPhones that were out of warranty or has been repaired by a third party.
- Comment on Amazon will “ramp up” Prime Video ads in 2025 1 month ago:
I just went cold turkey because I can’t/won’t watch content with ads, and already felt the cost of our streaming services was too much for what we get out of it.
What I’ve found myself doing is if I do buy from Amazon and it’s below the free shipping amount, I try and buy from a marketplace seller who ships themselves for free. Often this ends up matching the Prime price, but it’s buried further down the result because it doesn’t have Prime shipping. Or I buy the same product via eBay, which is mostly cheaper. But main thing is, I’ve found I just buy less. Like A LOT less. As a family we’d often get 3 or 4 Amazon deliveries a week. That’s not been replaced with orders from other retailers. It’s almost as if having Prime encourages you to buy stuff you maybe don’t need!

We are halfway through it!
- Comment on Amazon will “ramp up” Prime Video ads in 2025 1 month ago:
I unsubscribed in January and still have too much stuff to watch. Although that is helped by being in the UK and having iPlayer I guess. I’ve also spent way less on impulse buying crap because of the free shipping. Absolutely do not miss Prime.

- Comment on This Is Why You Should Never Store Your Retro Game Collection In A Shed | Time Extension 2 months ago:
To be honest I’ve got a bunch of CDs, DVDs and game discs etc. Never stored on a shed or attic and many have rot. They tend to be particular labels, publishers or manufacturers. For example I have a few BBC audio CDs and most of those within a certain range of years have succumbed. I personally wouldn’t store these in a shed but I wouldn’t be surprised if the same thing happened under any conditions. I now use ODEs where feasible or FPGA. My game discs are mostly for looks now.

Things that Liz Truss thinks are equivalent:
“Far left” activists unveiling poster of a googlyeye lettuce.
Far right activities burning down hotels housing refuges; loot bakeries for sausage rolls.

The fact that she blamed the Tory defeat on things like not scrapping the human rights act is spectacularly ignorant. What a useless politician she truly was. Fuckity bye.

- Comment on Questions about cleaning a PET 8 months ago:
My approach is to start with the least aggressive cleaners and work up if the weak one doesn’t work. So basically start with dish detergent, then window/surface cleaner, alcohol, and WD-40. Acetone is the final solution, but since it melts plastic its only useful on metal or ceramic. The lettering on the NES and Commodore keys will come off with alcohol. You should always test alcohol on a small area first.
For rust, soak in white vinegar and then scrub to neutralise and remove. You should then rinse well and clean to get rid of the vinegar.
Personally I’ve only ever retrobrited plastic, but I tend not to anymore because it really does make it more brittle. Also it can be patchy on anything other than white/beige.

- Comment on Any handheld consoles with parental controls? Mainly looking for timed sessions 11 months ago:
The Switch is “okay”. You can set a daily limit and an end time. As well as allowing or blocking titles. You can’t set more granular sessions times, or even a start time. And “bedtime” cannot be earlier than 4pm. It’s all a bit limited compared to Xbox from example, but it’s okay. You control the times from a mobile app.

Bad bot. You’ve removed most of the meat of the article. TL:DR - Oversized components and cheap solder cause weak connections and make the drives prone to breaking. It also impacts 2GB and 3GB drives.

- Comment on Initial PeerTube impressions and tips from a newbie creator 1 year ago:
I saw your channel on maker tube (I think) today when I was looking for Jan Beta’s channel! You can use NewPipe as an app for Peertube, but it’s a bit fiddly in your normal Fediverse style when trying to find and sub to people/channels. Also, I don’t think you really subscribe via NewPipe. Subscriptions are just local and it doesn’t use a Fediverse account.
