I’m shocked, shocked that outsourcing public sector contracts to the lowest bidder results in this scenario.

- Comment on Questions about cleaning a PET 4 months ago:
My approach is to start with the least aggressive cleaners and work up if the weak one doesn’t work. So basically start with dish detergent, then window/surface cleaner, alcohol, and WD-40. Acetone is the final solution, but since it melts plastic its only useful on metal or ceramic. The lettering on the NES and Commodore keys will come off with alcohol. You should always test alcohol on a small area first.
For rust, soak in white vinegar and then scrub to neutralise and remove. You should then rinse well and clean to get rid of the vinegar.
Personally I’ve only ever retrobrited plastic, but I tend not to anymore because it really does make it more brittle. Also it can be patchy on anything other than white/beige.

And with worse safety, it would appear.
- Comment on Any handheld consoles with parental controls? Mainly looking for timed sessions 6 months ago:
The Switch is “okay”. You can set a daily limit and an end time. As well as allowing or blocking titles. You can’t set more granular sessions times, or even a start time. And “bedtime” cannot be earlier than 4pm. It’s all a bit limited compared to Xbox from example, but it’s okay. You control the times from a mobile app.

- Comment on SanDisk Extreme Pro Failures Result From Design and Manufacturing Flaws, Says Data Recovery Firm 7 months ago:
Bad bot. You’ve removed most of the meat of the article. TL:DR - Oversized components and cheap solder cause weak connections and make the drives prone to breaking. It also impacts 2GB and 3GB drives.
- Comment on Russia renamed its ambitious satellite program after Putin misspoke its name 8 months ago:
Bad bot. You skipped the main part:
“At first it was called Ehfir,” Putin said. “And at one of my public speeches I was talking and said it was Sfera. I arrived at the Kremlin, and the former Roscosmos head greeted me and said, ‘Vladimirovich, you said it was project Sfera, Sfera you said. That’s what it is, project Sfera.’”

- Comment on Netflix may hike prices after success of password-sharing crackdown 8 months ago:
Urgh. The only people in our house who watch it are the kids for cake based reality shows and Lego animation. So as soon as they raise the prices it’s getting cancelled.
- Comment on Initial PeerTube impressions and tips from a newbie creator 9 months ago:
I saw your channel on maker tube (I think) today when I was looking for Jan Beta’s channel! You can use NewPipe as an app for Peertube, but it’s a bit fiddly in your normal Fediverse style when trying to find and sub to people/channels. Also, I don’t think you really subscribe via NewPipe. Subscriptions are just local and it doesn’t use a Fediverse account.
- Comment on The Most Streamed Movies in 2022 9 months ago:
I’ve heard of three of these movies…
Thankfully (?) my kids exclusively watch Ninjago, Captain Underpants and Nailed It.
I do remember a time when our eldest was 3 or 4 and he would watch the same movie on repeat over and over. The months he was obsessed with Robots and Planes Fire and Rescue were dark indeed.

- Comment on Apple TV vs Firestick. 10 months ago:
I have a Fire TV Stick Lite and it’s awful. The UI is sluggish and using it for anything is a chore. Perhaps if I had got a higher spec one it would be different, but honestly I cannot recommend this particular device at all.

Noel does some great videos. I missed his repair stuff. Since he moved he doesn’t seem to have the same time to make the videos.
Despite me having two electronics degrees I’ve learnt a lot about diagnosing problems with old computers and consoles from his and Jan Beta’s videos.
- Comment on Enterprise is too gross 11 months ago:
My issue with ENT is the treatment of female characters. It’s not just T’Pol, but she definitely comes off worse. It’s all pretty cringy watching it with 2023 eyes. That crap with the Doctor guilting T’Pol into sexy time Vulcan therapy with Trip, for example. Urgh. Very much of the “FHM” era. That, and most (all?) the characters are unlikable. I’ve tried many times to watch it since the time but struggling with more that 1 or 2 episodes.
