Linux has come a long way though and it’s basically turn key for some distros. Even with flatpak or system catalogs built into the gui.

- Comment on Where do you guys buy your 3D print and such at? 2 weeks ago:
There’s also onshape which has a free tier (your files are public) and it’s web based so you can model on any platform. Or fusion 360 which comes from an annoying company but fine for little things. I’ve been using onshape for little things lately. I
don’t think I’d recommend blender to a newbie. It’s more involved and really takes time to learn. Similar for free CAD. I love the idea but it’s really clunky to use.
The best (imo) modeling software has a simple workflow with easy to find tools. Create a sketch, extrude that sketch, then do it again if needed, add holes etc…

I just model nearly everything I print. The one time I purchased was from cults3d. I’m sure printable or anywhere else is fine too. Most of the paid ones just have better pictures but some are great designs imo

That’s just about all I need. Vpn + privacy browser is as much effort as I’m willing to put in. Beyond that it gets really frustrating.

eBay helps too. I picked up 16gb of ddr4 ram for someone the other day for $40 and got myself a cpu cooler for my build for $60 less than brand new. It was just open box so basically new. Takes patience but there are still deals to be found out there.

I just built an am4 machine from mostly old parts I had kicking around. Was happy I went a little to crazy a few years ago. No way I’d of been able to do it with prices now

- Comment on What's the best way to ease getting back in shape after years of little to no exercise? 2 months ago:
The hardest thing is to just do it regularly. Whatever it is. Have a set time every day you do it. If it’s walking, do it rain or shine at a certain time every day.
Count your calories and try to burn more than you consume. There are lots of apps out there to help but I used omnom and it is great.
Lots of people say to take progress pictures in front of a mirror so you can see your progress. It can be motivating.

Yeah this person knows what’s up. Don’t fall into the cast iron cleaning cult bs
- Comment on [deleted] 4 months ago:
People are so weird with their cast iron care… I scrub it with hot water, a brush, and maybe some soap depending on how dirty it is. Then I dry it off LIKE A NORMAL PAN and heat a little oil in it again to keep it from rusting. The only thing you need to do different than a normal pan is get some oil on it and heat it up after washing. It’s a ferrous metal so it’ll rust if it isn’t protected.

- Comment on Reminder if you're leaving Discord for this Revolt server ( Linux + Steam Deck devs / creators) 8 months ago:
Revolt isn’t federated, encrypted, has no video chat, claims privacy but that claim seems to be simply because they are based in Europe. The layout is nice and ui is better than element but that’s the only upside i see. I hate the matrix client ui’s and chat sorting options.
